Would Tommy Hearns Be Bulled To Defeat By Lamotta?

After the final bell, Jake’s corner would need a container filled with ice to go collect his ears and put them in so they can be reattached after Tommy boxes them off.

Jake puts on steady pressure but mostly that’s just walking into one of the best jabs in the history of the game and doesn’t get past it often enough to do much of note — some moments here and there, a few rounds on his side of the ledger — but Hearns could flat-out box and would be content to do so.

Now if this one was fought the way Jake liked to do it — he weighs in at 165 and probably is 168 in the ring while Thomas is 146 1/2 — then maybe LaMotta bullies another welterweight around enough to win a decision. But if they both have to come in at 160, it’s all Tommy.

 

He's a big enough hitter for Hearns chin, this fight won't really commence until about round 10, with Tommy waaay ahead he'll begin to take breaks as his tank begins to empty and like his fight with Ray at 147 he'll run outta gas and be stationery. Jake stops Tommy in 14 or 15.

 

Hearns was only stopped by notable punchers though, it's not like any soft hitters or mediocre punchers ever stopped Hearns, and LaMotta is not a big puncher. The stoppage to Leonard was more out of exhaustion and Leonard could bang at Welterweight, Hagler like i said swarmed all over Hearns with a frenzied attack and again Hagler was a good puncher, and Barkley was a big puncher at Middleweight and 6'1 to boot with a much longer reach than LaMotta.

Also a few things Leonard is a way more skillful boxer than LaMotta, and LaMotta would be eating alot more punches than Leonard did. LaMotta just plows forward and gets hit alot and i don't care how tough he is. He gets hit enough by Hearns's right hand he's going to start feeling it, i guess if it's 15 rounds there is a chance LaMotta gets to Hearns late. But the amount of punishment LaMotta would be taking at range, getting pot shotted it makes me wonder.

 

What a damn good fight. Jake was able to take Satterfield best I would assume he could take Hearns but Hearns may outbox him

Lamotta is tailor made for Hearns imo. Roldan was quicker and much more awkward.

My curiosity is this, all of Hearns losses have been by KO, or I am just hallucinating them? No moral victory when you have been knocked out, the victory takes precedent over moral victory. Didn't Hearns chin fail him in big fights? The syndrome, he can dish it out but can't take it fit? I am just curious or is the favorite syndrome fighter blind simple fact that his losses have been by knockout. Not trying to ruffle any feathers but maybe those losses were forgiven due to his talent? If someone explains this with fairness in mind, maybe I may realize something, and no disrespect intended.

 

How is a 5 - 7 Lamotta with those short arms going to reach the much taller with the much longer reach Hearns consistently enough to stop him? another problem is JL didnt have the power to stop him

Lamotta had many more losses than Hearns

 

Both were also stopped by great fighters too.
