Would Tommy Morrison have beaten a prime Tyrell Biggs?

You're right it wasn't crack, it was a very bad cocaine habit as well as him being a severe alcoholic. You're wrong about him having a coke problem before turning pro though, he had coke problems all throughout his career, he was a full blown coke addict during his pro debut, he spent 3 weeks rehab in a California drug rehabilitation center after his pro debut and still had a fight lined up a couple of days after. It seems like his promoters were literally rushing him to the championship rather than worrying about his coke problem because they knew he was a lost cause already and had to cash in on the fact that he was an Olympic Gold medalist.

 

If Biggs hadn't developed such a serious coke habit and stuck to his craft and dedication, I don't see any reason why he couldn't beat Michael Spinks around 88/87 or Trevor Berbick in 86 or post Tyson Douglas in 1990/91. Biggs had all the talent in the world but was already a burn out by his mid 20's due to his drug addiction.

 

I misspoke about rehab being before he turned pro. It was after his debut. I’ve don’t remember seeing anything that showed he had a drug problem leading up to the Tyson fight. Tyson is the one who loved coke while fighting at world level.

 

Biggs pushes the pace. Tommy grunts and huffs and puffs and throws his paint-by-the-numbers combos. Biggs weathers all that nonsense and drags Tommy into deep waters. Tyrell stops him in the 8th.
