Mm, I would think and this is not with full conviction due to the pedigree Spinks deserves, that Tommy would start fast and end it quickly he only has to fight perfectly for one moment to end it, and I just don't think Spinks has enough power to truly stop Tommy or even halt his march other then say a mercy stoppage, being a product of Tommy shooting his load to quickly and being to spent to resist. He just isn't durable enough to fend Morrison off for long in the most likely scenario. (IMO)

I think Spinks might always have problems with true heavyweights that are skilled, fast punching and powerful. Tommy fits the bill. If their sizes were equal I'd take Spinks but they're not. Spinks would have to box out of his skin to avoid Tommy's nukes all night long.

I wouldn't actually favour Spinks against Cooney in his unbeaten days. If he was meeting Cooney from the Norton ko then there's a good chance Spinks ends up unconscious. Imo.

I don´t think Spinks would look to well against a young upcoming pressure boxer like Morrison. He stops the Bentt version.

Michael Spinks is actually one of Tyson's best wins.
I've been accused of underrating Tyson and giving him less credit than he deserves, but to me anyone who thinks Spinks would lose to a chump like Morrison is by extension underrating Tyson's entire resume, not to mention what is does to Holmes's standing (albeit the 35 year old version).

They would all knock out Morrison.
Morrison's claim to fame is running away from a slow-motion 44 year old Foreman for a lame decision win.
Holmes at 36 or 42 would have stopped Morrison. Spinks would stop him. Even alcoholic 30 year old Cooney would be 50-50 to stop the best Morrison.
Morrison should beat Tangstad, but don't be surprised if that one's a struggle too !

Frazier is higher than Morrison for sure

But Morrison wasn't a glass jawed joke as some make him out to be ... He didn't have the best chin but he was an excellent combination puncher and had an excellent left hook ... He's not an ATG but he wasn't that bad

@Unforgiven @swagdelfadeel I can´t dismiss that Spinks looked fine and very calculating with the much bigger Cooney, but we only saw him with Holmes (who many feel beat him in the rematch) and the Norwegian. Some question marks here. If he boxed Tucker, discussing Spinks would have been MUCH easier.
There is a fine YT Coverage from 1987 with Michael Spinks and Mike Tyson sitting next to each other in the ring answering questions, bringing some insights to the topic I believe.
Was going to open a thread on that anyway.

Morrison was extremely hot and cold. But I agree, he tends to get overrated like every other boxer who could whack at HW.

Tommy does a Tyson on Spinks.

Tommy is a more flawed fighter than Mike, but Spinks cannot handle what the Morrison's and Tyson's bring.

It takes Tommy twice as long, same result.

Tommy by KO in round 2

You never know, but my money would be on Spinks to find a way to win. Either a fairly comfortable decision or late rounds knockout. Yes Morrison has the proverbial puncher's chance, but I don't see him landing it, or landing consistently enough to get the job done. Spinks was so versatile - he could move and box, he was fast, had great legs, awkward head movement, he knew how to survive and recover when hurt, had great conditioning, threw a lot of punches, put them together well, and had plenty enough pop and speed to get respect.

I never thought too much of Spinks as a Heavyweight. He made some money from the division and fair play to him.
But wins against a jaded Holmes, over two awful bouts, in which Holmes looked very poor and still probably deserved the decision in the rematch, isn't filling me with the kind of confidence to back him heavily against Morrison.

Who else? An unknown Norwegian and a pickled Cooney, before getting paid roughly $150K/sec for losing to Tyson.
Spinks was a really smart boxer, a truly great Light Heavyweight, so he can't simply be dismissed, but there's little evidence, as far as I can see, that he could have handled a prime heavyweight with Morrison's level of ambition and aggression.

This would be a genuine test for Spinks and Morrison would be the bet for me.

Another white drug addict with "a puncher's chance" that people can be duped into having a shot against Spinks.

    Spinks TKO.

What is going on this thread?

Spinks did 30 rounds with Larry Holmes and took his belt.

An old ass Larry Holmes schooled the guy who put Morrison to bed.

Spinks beat the **** out of Cooney who was every bit as good and dangerous as Morrison.

Morrison fought small heavyweights in Vallin and Bentt and did not exactly post spectacular results.

Morrison finished 12 rounds once in his career and it was via running.

This one is an easy pick.

Morrison would have a strong puncher’s chance but I would favor Spinks to win by stoppage
