With modern gloves and giving Jeffries a year to acclimatise himself to modern boxing, with a training regime and a couple of tune ups.Would prime Tyson be likely to stop a prime Jeffries , a man who was never stopped when prime and who absorbed punches from smaller gloves without being floored?
Fifteen rounds what do you think?

    Good question.
Looking at Jeffries lack of head movement i can c Tyson stopping him and on the flip side theres always the chance Tyson gets discouraged if things dont go how he expects loses heart and gets stopped himself.

Jeffries was 6'1 225 pounds...had great stamina and power in his prime...could take a hell of a shot...and deal out heavy punishment...Nat Fleischer of Ring Magazine called Jeffries one the the best fighting machines ever produced...wouldn't surprise me if Jeffries won this...

    It's impossible to say.
    Tyson stopped some durable fighters.
Jeffries was obviously strong and a good wrestler though.
Tyson might have to grind out a decision, box a bit , pace himself.

Relative to his time he was special but against a 1 in a lifetime animal like prime Tyson he is stopped. Speed, balance, foorwork, accuracy, power and technique to maximize his natural gifts. I know Fleischer spoke highly of him but IMO he is biased JJ's best fights were against small men in which he took alot of punches. Tyson is faster more accurate and hit harder than Fitz, Corbett and Sharkey

    First define Jeffries.

We know exactly what Tyson was, but we are reconstructing Jeffries based on partial information.

Tyson never coped well with grapplers, and if Jeffries employed his grappling skill effectively, it is easy to imagine him giving Tyson a lot of problems.

Even taking the punches of Fitzsimmons, is no guarantee that you will be able to take what Tyson can dish out.

A lot depends on how you interpret Jeffries.

I would favor Jeffries over Tyson anyway....so no I doubt Tyson is stopping in prime Jeffries at all in my opinion...Jeffries had the grappling and defense. ...he would dominate in his own way similar to holy field...he'd push Tyson around and like holy field have had the tough mental edge here also...maybe

Jeffries did not weigh 225lbs when in top shape.

i'm going for yes, but obviously there's only so much to go on.

i don't think that jj would be jabbing tyson on his way in, and while he could control the inside i think tyson would be landing a lot from mid range (neither would likely do much from the outside, jeff coz styles and tyson coz size limits)

Tyson, in theory, hits hard enough to stop anyone. Most of us will agree with that.

When you look back at his career Tyson was perhaps the all-time best at blowing out 2nd tier competition, but we aren't talking about a 2nd tier guy.

The another thing with Tyson was his best weapon wasn't his hook or right hand it was intimidation. If his opponent wasn't intimidated or actually fought back, Tyson lost his steam and vinegar as the rounds went on. Past round 7 or so Tyson was likely to take his opponent the distance. He was very much a front runner.

Jeffries was an all time durable type, with brute strength, a good slip and duck type of defense and quick feet. He also owned an all time hook to the body or head, and when one of those landed Tyson would have the same body language that he had when the fight started.

So Yes Tyson could do it, but I don't see it.

He would easily be 225 in Tyson's time, and he was 220 in shape. His average title defense weight was a shade over 220 pounds. So why could he not add 5 pounds with modern nutrition and training? I think he'd be 230-235 in shape if he was around today.

I don't care what Jeffries would weigh or if he would be 7 feet tall. He went life and death with old light heavies and Pier 6 brawlers. He doesn't last 3 rounds with a focussed Tyson. Sammy Schaff had a better chance.
