Based on last night, I think Mike Tyson -- right NOW -- might have a shot at taking out Fury. Terribly disappointing last night. I get it. It happens. Has happened to other greats and then get their **** in order and look great again. But still. Man.
Did he EVER fight anyone his own height? I think the thing that would've thrown him off would've been getting in the ring with a guy his own height.
Absolutely. Mike Tyson beat Mike Tyson, and Tyson Fury beat Tyson Fury. They were their own worst enemies!
I can get on board with larger size and dimensions (height and reach) being used to advantage in the strict sense and spirit of boxing. However, the “advantage” that we often speak of relates to greater size and dimensions being used to advantage in the “not so strict” boxing sense - mauling, leaning. stifling, tiring - a wrestling “cross over” in part. That’s why many of these behemoths absolutely suck when watching them - they drift from the art of boxing and instead use their greater size in more sheer and direct terms. Whatever his alleged condition, Fury’s potential advantage in that regard was negated by Ngannou and Francis was also equipped to chance his arm in close - making it more dangerous for Fury. All in all, it removed quite a substantive component to Tyson’s normally employed armoury. It also seems less often addressed that Fury’s maul etc. tactics not only take from his opponent but they also allow Tyson to break and get a breather for himself as and when - a luxury he didn’t get enjoy vs Ngannou - therefore tapping Fury’s stamina that much more. Usyk doesn’t have the size or strength of Ngannou but the same effect could be simulated to some degree if Usyk gets (or ensures) a referee that will militantly police Fury’s less clean tactics. Ali vs Frazier has always been a prime example of what a huge difference a ref can make - from the rematch to the rubber, from Perez to Padilla, from Ali holding impossibly to Ali having to fight for his life in a more pure, punch dedicated contest. So I could see Mikey T chopping down Tyson F in an open, clean contest but in reality, Fury would try to stifle Mike with his size whenever he could get away with it. If Fury was allowed to do same, it would be a tough fight for Mike. @Rollin is so very correct that Tyson is actually about 6’7” in reality. Still very tall but it’s pathetic that commentary teams keep mindlessly running with the 6’9” BS - Tyson himself has admitted to 6’7”. PS - Tim Bradley is the worst commentator I’ve ever heard - and that’s bad, because he resides among other commentators who are very bad also. Such a self aggrandising, “I told you so” little twerp. Lol.
Fury wouldn't survive him. Tyson would have multiple opportunities to finish him off over the course of a fight and Fury wouldn't stave off all of them IMO. Tyson is no Wilder.
Fury is scared of man he calls a middleweight. He would crawl back inside his mother before he would face Tyson. I can see a Tyson whitewash on the cards or late stoppage. I would love to see Tysons body punching on Fury, it would be beautiful to watch a smaller man breaking a massive one down.
