The sparring of 1 round, repeat...1 round, in 1984 proves little. Tyson was 17 years of age and Holy was, what, 23? We've never really gotten a clear cut description or answer from that one session, just that both went at it FULL BLAST. Holyfield has always said Tyson was the one fighter who worked harder than him in the gym. And reading an earlier post, Tyson wanted his titles back in 1991. In fact, so bad that he threatened to leave Don King, didn't mind coming out second AND was taking less money than by all rights he deserved. That's saying a lot. Holyfield would've been at his best after studying Tyson like a demon. BUT, Tyson wanted those titles back and knew that Evander would be his biggest challenge. Tyson would've implemented a stricter game plan. In those bouts with Ruddock, every time Ruddock started coming on Tyson would wake up and fire bigger shots right back at him. In '96 Holyfield adapted with age better than Tyson did. Not saying he was a better fighter with age than Tyson, just that he was able to adapt better where Tyson couldn't. Their scheduled 1991 fight would've been the most competitive fight where I'm still on the fence picking a winner. But Tyson still had the reflexes, speed and power to get the job done. Tyson TKO 9 Holyfield.
