For the age record, it also depends on managment and how fast he can get the fights.

I dont think he beat the record in the 30's or 40's, because you needed about 40 fights to get a title shot lol.

Well, Joe Louis was on the verge of getting a shot after a similar number of fights., and for purposes of argument let's assume Tyson's managers could secure him a similar run in any era and get the champ to fight him after only 20 months.

The question then becomes : Which reigning champion can beat the Tyson who faced Berbick ?

    Willard,
    Burns,
    Spinks, both of em,
    Corbett maybe
    Fitz,
    Patterson,
and if he catchs Lewis and Wlad early, I favor Tyson over them.

Not sure how 20 month Tyson would do vs the real elite.

I dont think he beats Ali, but I give him close to 50 50 vs about any one else.
40 percent vs Foreman, and a major favorite vs Frazier.

Probably only in an era with split titles.

If you put him in an era with one version of the title he is still likley to win it quickly, but unlikley to establish his credentials and navigate the politics in such a short period.

This. Also, Tyson had an athletic style that was not built to peak for too long at such a high level.

He was at a high level for 14-15 years with the last six or seven with half ass preparation and a four year hiatus. Id say his style held up pretty well for a careers worth.

In response to your post (before it was edited), regarding '89 Tyson; he would still cut through the Klits, Haye & Adamek like a hot knife through butter. :deal

I failed miserably in my attempt to attach a pic of Atom Bomb from Garbage Pail Kids. I do agree with you. Even though he fell off the training regimen, the Klits, Haye and Adamek couldn't carry his mouthpiece!
