Vitali seemed to fade a bit, but at the end of the last round fought, Lewis plopped down on his stool appearing completely spent. It was still anybody's fight.

So exactly what is it you are claiming? Vitali was in a Russian *****house slurping as much Vodka as he could shovel down his neck, eating more burgers in a single day than James Toney could consume in a year, when he suddenly got the call, " hey Vits, get yourself over to L.A, you got a fight with Lewis for the WBC Heavyweight title of the world in 2 weeks "

Jeez, man you should make YOUR way to Los Angeles. They pay good money for script writers in Hollywood.:rofl:rofl

Maybe Lennox Lewis should rub his razor sharp braids to cut YOUR face.

Vitali was getting stronger with each round

I only remember lewis doing 3 things in that fight

    1. Throwing an illegal thumb at the start of round 3
    2. Great uppercut in the 6th (best punch he ever threw)
    3. Clinching

I would say it was lewis that faded but he had no work rate to begin with

Yes. He was. He started very strong and won the first two rounds, then he traded the next two rounds with Lewis and clearly lost the final round. I dont dispute the fact that Vitali put a good effort in and had a good fight, but it wasn't good enough and he was fading.

As for the cut being caused by "blatent cheating". No one who's ever claimed it has ever proved it. It remains a cheap excuse and conspiracy theory unless you've miraculously unearthed some evidence to support it now.

It made no differance. Both men were training to fight different opponents on that same night - Lewis to fight Johnson and Vitali to fight Boswell - the late pull out of Lewis's opponent resulted in Vitali's mandatory being moved up. Both men had the same amout of preparation time as the other and neither can be exused on this issue.

:patsch Vitali was fighting on the undercard vs Cedric Boswell so was in shape and he and Lewis had already agreed to fight later that year so he was likely already preparing for Lewis.

Vitali was fading in that final round, the momentum had fully swung Lewis' way. He was hurt by an innocuous right hook by Lewis that seemed to be nothing more than an arm punch. He was only able to stay on his feet by grabbing onto Lewis.

Now we don't know for sure what would have happened had the fight continued, maybe Vitali could of done something different and turned the fight around, but he had already hit Lewis with his best shots, he had 3 bad cuts, Lewis was coming on strongly and was now hurting him with shots that a round or 2 before wouldn't have done. Personally I think it was only a matter of time, Lewis would have stopped him in a round or 2.

Vitali was training to fight big Cedric Boswell and went to camp before Lewis who was due to fight 6'2" Kirk Johnson,a totally different fighter to Vitali in both stature and style. There are some myths perpetuated about this fight.:patsch

I agree that this was a justified stoppage. The cut was huge and there were many more rounds left.Cut was opened by a legal punch.

The fight was lucky to go as far as it did, those cuts were hideous. They could have stopped it sooner and still been justified imo.

I don't think Lewis threw everything into getting the fight stopped in the last round. I thought he was quite measured, stalking the opening at times. He landed some solid blows besides the massive uppercut. He landed a sneaky little uppercut before the bell too.

Vitali looked had it to me, his punches had no snap and looked tired.

I also thought the theatrics at the end by he and his brother were embarrassing. The stoppage was more than justified and they came off as sooks, bad sports and sore losers to me.
