I was watching berlanga rolls and the Gonzaga Memphis March madness game at the same time although I was focusing most of my emotional attention on the basketball game. Both competitions were pretty similar, underdog vs favorite with the underdog pushing the favorite to their limit. Unlike the basketball game however, in the boxing match the true winner got robbed. A lot of interest in sporting events like March madness or even football tournaments like the champions league is to see the underdog upset the favorite. I am thinking that boxing's practice of robbing the under dog is counterproductive to the sport. If Instead they gave the decision to rolls and marketed everywhere as an upset, people might be more excited to see it.
I don’t think upsets would bring them in as much as Robberies in high profile fights pushes them away. super fights happening more often (Spence vs Crawford Types) or even good fights happening regularly (Benavidez vs Charlo types) would bring more fans in provided they don’t get kicked in the nuts by a blatant robbery decision when they in fact do tune in.
