Some were, some weren't. As said, Ruiz was only 33 and had beaten some very good fighters in the previous few years, much better fighters than some of the fighters ranked in the current top 10 today have. I'm not ranking unproven prospects or one good or decent one win prospects and contenders over proven world champions. You have to prove it first and I've never believed this era was any better than the Klitschko one. Wlad is arguably the most physically gifted, athletic, and technically good SHW ever and his power in both hands and his jab was ridiculous and was fast for his size and had excellent skills too. Vitali was not only iron-jawed and very powerful too but he was also slick albeit it was kind of clunky slickness and had a really high ring IQ. The way he was able to control his opponents with little arm punches and walk them into big shots and counters was really impressive. Wlad has a much better resume but Vitali was a really intelligent fighter

How dare you disrespect valuev like that. SNV would be top ten in ANY ERA.

I tend to rate Chagaev higher than most so this does not surprise me.

Really? I'd only be betting sure about the first four.

I can picture Valuev fitting right into not only today's top 10, but very possibly nabbing a worthless strap or 2. He'd probably be in the mix of everyone below Fury & Usyk.

Hell, Ngannou was rated #10 by the WBC in his FIRST pro fight, so why shouldn't big Value be up there lol.

This era is better than the early Klitschko era up top but the early Klitschko era had much more depth and Valuev was right near the top. Whether its because of his size or not don't see a reason he wouldn't be top 10.

This era is better and size has alot to do with it, and also everyone can punch, even if the fighters in Valuev era would have been more seasoned and craftier.

Decent journeyman types, past primers and okay contenders. I couldnt say he fought an actual dangerous prime threat other than Haye, who did as least as possible to get the Belt. Povetkin would of done alot more damage to Valuev, and Samuel Peter was a big punching threat. He held the belt for a few years and never fought either Klitchko. He was a bog standard belt holder, with no real stand out performances, he gets props for his activity and being consistent. Say he had to fight out of Germany, Switzerland and fight in America or Britain, or even Saudi for a title.

He was slow and feather-fisted, but was tough and could box some. Pretty useful jab. Those attributes plus his size alone make him a fairly difficult out for most contenders.

Seriously, Wilder's hands might not stand up to Valuev's skull.

    :D thats a possibility.

No one consider fury a big puncher but comparing to Valuev, you could.
