Would Wilder Have Gone The Distance With Mike Tyson (1991)?

I’m the only one it appears who selected yes. Oh well. The masses aren’t always right.

 

Even a mid to late 90’s version of Mike would have been too much.

 

Especially when it comes to Tyson.

 

Well, Wilder would have a better chance than I would of getting out of the very FIRST round against even THAT version of of Tyson.

But that's not saying much at all lol.
Wilder is a fighter with bad balance, poor leg strength, pushes his jab, telegraph his hardest punches , average chin, with seemingly miles of lean body for a body puncher as viscous as Tyson was.
Even that version of Tyson gets him out of there with in 3-4 rds max.

 

Wilder is just too hittable. His defence is leaky and his footwork is clumsy. He doesn't know how to create space. I think Tyson would bob n weave his way inside, suck up Wilder's space so that his long arms are a liability and drop some atom bombs on him.

I guess there's a chance he could catch Tyson coming in with his own nuke but the odds on that are so long that not even Red Samurai would bet on it.

 

I voted no as well, but I also would've voted no If the question was "Would Douglas have gone the distance with Mike Tyson 1990?" as I imagine everyone on this forum would've.

 

Tyson is legit the worst match-up I can think of for Wilder from the 90s gang. Lewis, Bowe, Holyfield, unlikely as it is I wouldn’t be surprised if Wilder somehow beat any of those guys. But Tyson is like lab-designed to beat Wilder.

Either Wilder lands a hail-mary right hand with a one in a million chance and knocks Tyson’s head across the ring, or (and MUCH more likely) he just gets brutalized and KO’d early.

 

A horrible, horrible stylistic match up for a guy of that size, without a great jab, inside game and overall boxing skills.

Look at Wilder’s huge size.

It wouldn’t have been possible for him to have had the time, space or the angle, to have landed a bomb on such a small, elusive target.

Like having a machine gun with no bullets.

 

Wilder could take a beating at his best.
