Wlad is the top dog right now, but he is the king of one of the worst era's in HeavyWeight boxing history. The 90s were up there with the 70s as being one the best eras of all time, guys like Holyfield, Lewis, Tyson, Bowe, and Foreman ruled the division. I just wonder if Wlads chin would hold up against some these great fighters, or would he just be another Mercer or Morrison on the outside looking in most of the time. As talented as Wlad is I just dont see him being tough enough to beat most of the 90s top fighters, I kinda see him getting blown out by most them IMO. Would Wlad be as great in 90s as he is in now, and would he be a feared title holder or just another heavyweight contender?
His chin wouldn't have passed the test back then IMO. Wlad is a strong, tall, skillful, conditioned heavyweight, he's been looking really impressive recently, but I just can't see him taking Tyson's or Lewis's punches which would have been inevitable to confront them. However, he has been successful in avoiding big punches in his recent fights and I wonder if he would've been able to do that with the HW of the 90....
As a Klitschko fan who does not overrate or underate the brothers who are both world class heavyweights in any era. This does not mean they would be a lock to be the #1 HW in any era. Does anyone honestly believe Wlad and Vitali would not be in the top 10 in the 70's, 80's, and 90's. Even during boxings best years both brothers would be a force to be reckoned with and have the ability and power to drop anybody that ever fought. The same can be said of Lennox Lewis. Todays HW's get waaay underrated.
Holyfield in his prime would have wrecked Waldo. Come on! Have you forgotten just how well Holyfield did in the trenches with Bowe (who was significantly more capable inside than Waldo)?
I see Vitali doing be pretty well and probably getting a belt along the way, he is a tough fighter when hes in the ring who is capable of giving a punch and taking one. I honestly cant see Wlad doing well at all, his chin would be exposed once he got into the top 20, I would give Morrison a real chance of beating him as well.
Okay if Wlad's chin wouldn't hold up in the 90's then how did Lennox's chin hold up. Wlad has never been KTFO like Lewis was twice. Very similar fighters, Wlad would have done just as well in the 90's. I can still remember how they used to say how horrible the 90's HW's were back then .. now it was the glory years LOL.
He may well have done really well,or got knocked the hell out by a few, defintly tyson id say,but not the after prison tyson.
That is very true,in another decade when we may have frigging indian heavyweights dominating(hey it may be there time in the sun),people will say this era was great,i personaly think its quite a fasinating time, but i cant deny a lot of the main title fights ahve been disapointing.
Wlad would beat a prime Holyfield He would lost vs Lewis by ko in 4 of 5 fights He would knockout the tyson of the 90s in 6 or 7 rounds Foreman would eat jabs all night long Bowe would ko Wladimir
sure he would have. as great as those fighters were, how often did they fight each other? Its not like he would be fighting Bowe in March and then Lewis in November. It took Lewis and Holyfield a good seven years to get into the ring with each other. Tyson v. Holyfield took six years. Bowe never fought any of the other really good heavyweights other than Holy. If it wasn't for Holy, none of these guys would have ever fought each other. I think Wlad would do well against Mercer, Seldon, Akinwande, Morrison, Bruno, Ruddock, Briggs, Foreman II, Moorer, McCall. In fact, I think he beats all of them with the exception of Mercer who would give him a tough fight. The rest, at best various degrees of punchers chances. Moorer KO 2 McCall UD Foreman UD Akinwande UD. Morrison TKO 7 Seldon TKO 2 Bruno TKO 5 Briggs TKO 8 Ruddock TKO 7
A 25 yearold Vitali would have changed the landscape. That puts him right in with Holy/Bowe/Lewis and shot Tyson. In fact, I think Vitali would have TKO'd Tyson in '96 like Buster did in '90.. Lewis is the only one that would have a chance of beating him. The new version of Wlad is waaay better than the 2004 version, and I think he punches harder now, too. Tyson,Lewis may get to him, but if he connects first, watch-out. I think both the bros. are now getting their well due respect.
Lewis' did get caught on the chin twice, it could happen to anyone especially when you have your hands down, your pretty much asking to be knocked out. Wlad has been down 12 times against not so great fighters like Purity and TOS Williamson, and TKOd 3 times. I really think the only reason Wlad gets away with his bad chin, is theres only a few out there today that could actually challange it. It's too bad we dont have the heavyweights of yester year that would challange Wlad and give him a good fight.:verysad
Why not? His chin isn't the best but it's not glass either, he has never been knocked out cold ever in his career. Lewis didn't have the best chin either and dominated, Wladimir would've given every fighter he faced hell.
