Would Wlad survive in the 90s?

I agree 100% with you that the HW division back in the 90s was very deep in terms of talent and prospects. Guys like Mercer, Morrison, Ruddock, Golota, Mccall, Tua, Grant, Bruno, Ibeabuchi, etc looked all very promising.

In my view, Wlad is just slightly special than Morrison and that had he been fighting in the 90s, his weaknesses would have been exploited several times by some unexpected guys. But IMO Wlad would lose to Lewis, Holyfield, Tyson and Bowe of the 90s.

A fit Buster Douglas was a very good fighter. Problem is, it was sighted about as often as Halleys comet.

Oliver McCall reckons Douglas is the hardest hitter he's ever fought.

Brewster and Douglas are similar, in that conditioning, motivation and professionalism are their downfalls, but Douglas was more talented, a better boxer, and a harder hitter.


Wlad's main stumbling block is either crumbling under pressure - or not having a fighters mentality (whichever way you want to phrase it).

Peter pressured Wlad into 3 KD's, even though Wlad is by far a better fighter than Peter. Against a pressure fighter with more ability, how many KD's would that be????

 

Wlad would always be a dangerous top 10 heavyweight, but he would struggle against the likes of Lewis, Holyfield, Bowe, Tua, and Ibeabuchi. he may or may not have been able to handle Golota(whichever Golota showed up). He was on par with the best heavyweghts as far as talent, but chin and heart have always been question marks for him. He's like a more talented Ernie Shavers: good enough to beat anybody but always struggling to get over the hump. Fortunately for Wlad, Manny seems to have taken him over that hump.
Vitali is the better fighter with the better chin. He may not be the blue chipper his brother is, but he has the heart and chin his brother lacks. If only he could stay injury free. Maybe the steroids he has taken in the past have broken down his body.

 

Wlad will be a good contender.

 

-90th era is greatly overrated...There was old Foreman and Moorer in top5..Moorer beat first fight Holyfield MD and lost second TKO8 and hardly beat Schultz. What had Golota done except beat sick Riddick Bowe?

 

Yes. Wlad would have done well in the 90's. He could have beaten anyone. Guys like Foreman, Morrer, and McCall were champs in the 90's. I'd pick Wlad over all three of them. Yep-- Wlad could have been champ in the 90's for sure.

 

Morrison a 50-50 against Wlad? I can't see Mercer and Golota a 50-50. Mercer 80-20, Golota and Morrison a 90-10 underdog. Lewis and Holyfield would win at least 66 percent of the time.

 

wlad would have been more frightened than frank bruno if he had faced Tyson, wlad just doesnt have the mental makeup under pressure.

 

He'd beat a lot of them.

I'd love to see Klitschko Holyfield.

 

Maybe, but his also much better boxer than Bruno was.
