Anyone who thinks this fight is competitive obviously DKSAB. Lewis by brutal KO - ala Michael Grant..
Ray Mercer, after losing to Wlad around that time said Wlad would have had a great chance at beaating Lennox. Coincidentally Mercer had a very competitive fight with Lennox and got absolutely thrashed by Wlad. But I guess he doesnt know **** about boxing, amirite? ALso I like how people who bring up the Sanders/Brewster fight completely ignore Lennoxs outings with Rahman and McCall.
Lewis would have been a huge favorite over Wlad in 2003. He carried a big punch and Wlad had just been KO'd by Sanders, a marginal contender at best. That said, Lewis didn't exactly have a granite chin himself, so Wlad would have a puncher's chance.
Lewis would have totaled him. He had a better inside game and more of a killer instinct. I can't imagine anything other than a KO win for Lewis.
True that, people don't often realise this but Wladimir has better power then his brother always had too. Vitali never finishes fights early and when he knocks them out are the most common 8th-9th ko. Wladimir when he acually throws his shots often knocks people out pretty quik.
When you consider Lewis' advice to Sanders, along with his approach to Vitali and other taller opponents, it's clear that his strategy would have been to jump on Wlad from the start and blitzkrieg him. Wlad obviously has a puncher's chance, but Lewis had the better chin and superior on the inside. The crucial factor though would have been Wlad's mental resistance, rather than his physical. At that point in his career he psychologically wasn't ready for an aggressive 250lbs ATG throwing bombs from the first bell.
If Lewis and Wlad had several common opponents who backed Wlad to win then it begins to gain a bit of traction. But having an old Ray Mercer who was trounced by Wlad give him the nod it doesn't carry as much weight. Both of those fighters had average chins. They can be hurt and stopped early. In Lewis's case via 1 Punch. So it's not a forgone conclusion either way. But I will give the edge to Lewis, not just because I feel he is the better fighter but because he can improvise a lot better than Wlad and his inside game is more potent.
