This is my recollection, and the punchstats back me up here. http://www.boxrec.com/media/index.php?title=Fight:730091 Punchstats Total Punches Klitschko Sanders Landed 230 51 Thrown 413 229 Pct. 56% 22% Power Punches Klitschko Sanders Landed 171 42 Thrown 285 139 Pct. 60% 30% Other than landing about three solid blows, Sanders hit Vitali's gloves and shoulders all fight long. 51 punches landed in 8 rounds is not impressive at all, and that doesn't have much to do with being in shape. He still threw 230 punches, even if he doubles that output, at that connect rate, he still loses badly. I'm by no means a Klitschko nuthugger, but that wasn't even a remotely close fight.
atsch The highlight of this guy's career is getting his face pounded in a LOSING effort to an inactive, out of shape, PAST PRIME 38 yr old Lewis. That night Lennox was done and ready to pass the the torch he came in at a career high 256+ lbs, ANYONE near his level would have not only won BUT dominated him, FFS Rahman KO'd a younger, better version of an out of shape Lewis in Africa. Vitaly just isn't that good.
There is not one fighter around today that would beat Vitali Klitschko. None. and that includes his brother.
Wlad is the better cordinated, faster and more skilled of the bros, if he could keep his composure, which I know is a huge If I think he could easily win.
If an out of shape, past his prime, unmotivated Lewis can rip a prime Vitali to shreds, I'm sure a few others could. Ibeabuchi is one. The guy was a ****ing animal. One of the very few people with a legit chance of stopping him.
Agreed...but given the state of the division that is something of a hollow compliment. Having said that, you can only beat who is put in front of you.
Correct but there is not one fighter in the World right now that could beat him. He is too big, strong, mean, and his Chin is too good but I realize this is a weak era. :good
More revisionist history. Vitali was ahead on the scoring on all three judges scorecards when the fight was stopped due to the huge eyecut. In fact Vitali beat that ass for three rounds while partially blind and showed he was the superior fighter. Lewis bitched out of a rematch which he promised due to fear. George Foreman openly mocked Lewis for chickening out considering the incredible money and fame that both fighters would get from that much anticipated rematch. Anyway we were talking about Holmes-Vitali and the assinined assumption that Holmes would win EVERY round if the two huge warriors had fought each other prime for prime. Only a complete fool would suggest Vitali wouldn't win rounds in that fight. Hell, glassjawed Ken Norton who was crushed by every heavyhitter he ever fought won a bunch of rounds against Holmes as did Cooney. Nuff said.
He wouldn't he just isn't that good, only a nuthugger would make a big deal out of his losing effort against a very shitty version of Lewis. Holmes would be far to fast and skillful for Vitali who would begin to tire around the 3rd.
The fact is an old, inactive shitty version of lewis that wouldn't even last against Rahman beat a peak Vitali.
