Would you agree that Douglas-Tyson is the greatest boxing upset of all time?

As far as the odds 42-1 go it very well may be??? I would probably rank it alongside of schmelling-Louis I and Superbowl III

The signs were there that Tyson's flame was burning out and he was ready to be taken.

But not by Douglas. And you couldn't have found a person who thought so. I thought Holyfield had a shot, but never Douglas. Never. Just, no.

Along with Braddock-Baer(Which my grandpa says was pretty much thought of as in the bank for Baer) as the greatest boxing upset ever, and in the top 5 greatest sports upsets ever.

LMAO @ this talk of "knowing Tyson was going to get beat" by the last few posters... But anyway, Braddock Baer was a 15-1. Nothing crazy, despite the gentile HYPE... Holyfield over Tyson in the first fight was as much as 25-1. There have been ALOT of ****ing upsets in this game, but when you look at the odds for Tyson against both Douglas and Holyfield you start to get a really strong sense of the atmosphere around those fights. NOTHING compares to Douglas over Tyson. NOTHING. To say that was mainstream NEWS is a massive massive understatement. It was treated like 9/11, Pearl Harbor, and the American Revolution. Every human being alive heard the reports. The world stopped. Funny **** in this thread..

Yes, and the bookies at the time certainly agreed. Anybody that dropped an even ton on Buster would have done well.

Anyone saying no needs to get a grip. It's arguably the greatest SPORTS upset of all time.

Acknowledged I never in a million years would have picked Douglas, bud. Read the post. I sparred Mike briefly before the Williams fight, was in a good place with Snowell at the time, and Mike was slipping. But Douglas was not the man to do it, still a phenomenally large upset.

42-1 is STUPID odds. Douglas-Tyson probably supersedes them(Tyson is the most hyped fighter of all time), but imo, Braddock-Baer and Holyfield-Tyson definitely rank, and are not THAT far behind.

    Absolutely YES.

Tyson was considered invincible at the time, he was a world wide, globally known figure, the most famous athlete on the planet. Articles were written that quite literally said that he was unbeatable, it was the opinion of many that he was the greatest P4P Heavyweight champion ever.

The defense against Douglas was a foregone conclusion. Tyson would win, by KO. It wasnt questioned. NO ONE believed Douglas would beat him. The very idea that Douglas could have been competitive was even believed.

Tyson LOSING, by KO. Ive never seen ANY upset victory in ANY sport that comes close to comparison.

No matter what light in which history regards Tyson's legacy...given who and what he was at the time, contrasted with who Douglas was - Buster is the ****ing man, period - forever - and nothing can diminish that.

Tyson apologists saying he was depleted or mentally scattered; Holyfielders who think Evander would've KOed Tokyo Mike even sooner; those idiots who try to discredit 80's Iron Mike altogether as some kind of carefully matched fluke who never faced adversity - all these people need to STFU and just watch the god damn fight and sit in awe of what the man did. He brought it to the most feared hand to hand combatant in history up to that moment - he brought it for several rounds, he got up off the canvas, and he finished it.

Buster is the ****ing MAN. Forever. **** anyone who says different.

    Sorry I'm a bit drunk.

    But ****ing HAIL this man.

If you were around the camp say that upfront. It gives context. And I wasn't referring to saying he would get beat by Douglas. Getting beat by anyone is what I was after. Most hyped fighter of all time? Or is boxing a sport deserving of more respect and dedication than Tyson gave it? I choose the latter.
