Yes, this would be the equivalent of Alfonso Gomez outboxing Floyd mayweather to a shutout UD, or Malignaggi KOing Pacman in 1 round. Actually even those wouldn't be as shocking as the Douglas KO of Tyson was

His post wasn't that bad, he is right about Douglas's troubles with dedication. And in that fight Douglas DID prove he was an exceptional fighter WHEN at his best and motivated.

    Hindsight is 20/20.

We'll need physical proof posted that he actually made this bet 20 years ago.

I'm talking about an MPEG of contemporary video footage (so no better than grainy hi-8..) of this cat gushing with his betslip and his winnings uploaded to youtube.

Yes BUT Tyson was slipping prior to that fight and even Bruno stumbled him in 89. If you look at that fight and his 89 fights you'll notice someone down the line was going to beat him no matter what the odds were. He just wasn't as sharp as he was in 85-88 not discrediting Douglas just saying Tyson was beatable and Douglas proved it that night.

Miracle on ice probably has something to say about that, but pretty samn close.

Upset over Man o' War was a pretty big one too. Big enough that the upset was named after it.

Absolutely not! Douglas was a top 10 rated and experienced boxer.

    "Absolutely not!"?

The titular question of this thread, to refrain, was "Would you agree that Douglas-Tyson is the greatest boxing upset of all time?"

If that's your list of the top ten sports upsets of all time, and Douglas-Tyson ranks #4, and there are no other boxing matches above it, you would appear to be conceding that it is in fact the greatest boxing upset of all time.

So I don't quite get "Absolutely not!". :huh

Unless you were responding to something other than (or misunderstood) the OP...

It's hardly the worst long-count in the sport's history, just one of the highest-profile.

Technically it may have been 10 seconds according to a computer or a metronome but the MoQ rules do not adhere (not as of today, and certainly not in 1990) to computer or metronome time...the referee's discretionary count is still deferred to, so according to the rules Buster beat the count with no ifs ands or buts.

Right, I certainly don't buy that Douglas was "milking" it or anything like that...or that the whole thing was a conspiracy or fix. :yep
