How can he be the greatest of all times when he didn't even fight the greatest of his era?

Because the Heavyweight division became bull**** after Lewis retired, Lennox Lewis looks even better.

I think some of the reasons the initial statement makes are just wrong or unfair. For example, his refusal to rematch Vitali Klitschko was actually a very sensible and considered decision to RETIRE. He chose to keep his brain intact and not follow the path of GREED. He turned down millions and put his ego away for a moment to just bow out at the right time (maybe one fight too late if anything).

As a historical heavyweight though, I dont rate Lewis highly. I think he's become overrated. He wouldn't make my heavyweight top 10.

That's not fair. He was the greatest of his era.

Pretty dumb comment there. Is there any fighter out there who has came through every single fight looking amazing?

The main thing is that he battled through and beat every man he ever faced, whilst facing a lot of very good boxers.

If I put together a pound for pound top 5 of Sugar's era in and around his weight class, i'd say he fought one of them and recieved two hairline decisions.

Of course Robinson is a reasonable pick for #1 (i have him at #3), my point was, if you want to take a position on a given fighter, like the guy quoted in the opening post did, you can hammer absolutely anyone.

I rank Lewis 9th on my list, he should never be any higher than 7th IMO.

    Overrated on ESB.

Yeah, I thought it was blatantly obvious but Murk20 or whatever his name was just had to bite.

Agree 100 percent. Lewis is absurdly overrated by many boxing fans. He's not even the best of his own era, let alone top five all time as I've seen around here. Holyfield certainly, and arguably Tyson, should be rated higher.

you did the impossible mcgrain, you made a reasonable intelligent argument for robinson NOT being #1 all time. I've tried and failed before, using the maxim fight and his inability to excel when his physical tools left him as evidence. unbelievable man, you know your ****.
