Well people rate him very high now but I remember a few years back when he was fighting he wasnt that popular, everyone bitching that hes boring and he holds too much. Now that hes gone they love him.

He did have a decent run at heavy and he was the man on top for quite some time. And made all the rematches after his defeats. So he deserves to be in the top 10 of heavies and he is especially going to be high head to head because of his size and skill.

Lennox Lewis beat every man that got in the ring with him as a pro, ducking no one.
Lennox is right up there with Ali Louis & Marciano

By "true" boxings historians, writers, and athletes he means "American" historian, writers, and athletes. Silly U.S. bias once again.

Also, those who glorify the age of Ali, Foreman, Frazier, and Liston as the "Golden Age of HW Boxing" while arrogantly treating the present era as trash should take into consideration that they never faced Cuban, Soviet, Central Asian or Iron Curtain Eastern European athletes, which are some of the best athletes in the world. That's a fairly big chunk of the world's elite athletes they, conveniently, didn't have to face.

Those countries could have produced a continuous string of real-life Ivan Dragos throughout that so-called "Golden Age" if they wanted to but they chose not to cuz they weren't allowed to fight for prizemoney, as is still the case in Cuba.

Now that all those Slavic and Central Asian guys fight professionally, the two clearly dominant HWs are precisely two real life Ivan Dragos. That's the main reason Americans say the HW division is dead, because they're not dominating as easily as in the "Golden Age" when they never had to face Slavs, Cubans or Central Asians.

Lennox Lewis fought and beat Slavic fighters, none of the "Golden Age" guys did.

You're forgetting when Ali's jaw was nearly shattered overseas, but he was given extra time to recover. Corruption in boxing at its finest, preserving the overhyped prospect for another day.

Henry Cooper was robbed his place in history.

    Shame on you.

Thats like saying Ali should be at the bottom of any ATG list because he got dropped by Chuck Wepner.

You missed my post above. Further cementing the argument that Ali belongs no where near an all-timer list.

I vote this as the number one SPIN of all time!

Yeah, let's give the guy EXTRA points for running away with his tail between his legs from a guy he knew he was fortunate to beat. Who cares about an extra 20 million or Legacy? He didn't wanna face a guy that was guranteed to hurt his pretty face in the fight. He should be remembered for this beyond anything else in his career.

I am a Vitali fan and agree that Lewis was lucky to beat him and would have lost the rematch. I would have loved to see the rematch but prefer to see a healthy retired Lewis now instead of a speech - slurring Holyfield who confuses his insane ego with the voice of God.
