I feel you apply the same mentality towards Leonard as you do to Mayweather, in feeling that both were the greatest hustlers of the modern era understanding how the game works and getting the most out of it. Hearns has a speech impediment, Leonard is still winning. Pacquiao has been KTFO, Mayweather is still undefeated. Mayweather sees his heroes Robinson, Hearns and others and doesn't want to end up like that.
I see the Hearns and Manny way as the honest way than how Ray and Floyd are. Skillful guys? Yes. They couldn't pull it off if they weren't. But I think it is important being honest with who you are . Anyone can keep winning if they pick the lesser opponents or look for timing advantages. Leonard is winning with the beautiful people after he retired as he always did, but Tommy wins more with the real fight fans. And Tommy has improved a little since his fighting days and speaks more clearly now than ever, even after his tough fights. And for Ray and winning, even Marvin Hagler respects Tommy more than Ray because he knows Tommy never played games, although Marvin seems almost angry at himself for falling for Ray's games before their fight. Difference between Ray and Floyd is that Ray would have fought Pacman. He would have found the advantage somehow and worked it. To continue my rant, Ray applied to Hagler what Duran did to Ray in reverse, but Ray was younger when Duran did that so Ray has an excuse for falling for it, and he got a rematch (and rubbermatch)-Hagler did not. Hagler should have known better. Ray playing the nice guy and Duran playing the guy who got Ray mad so Ray would fight his fight is the same thing, just different tactics. Ray was smart. Although playing the nice guy is more disarming since he and Hagler said they were friends before their fight, and I think Marvin now thinks Ray became friends to get an advantage in the fight. Marvin should have talked to Hearns about Ray before that fight, he wouldn't have fallen for Ray as his great friend.
