If he'd chose to keep away from chavez those last 2 rounds completely, and not let himself get caught in the last rounds of war, he'd have won on points.

All that is immaterial. The fact is Taylor was ahead on points and Chavez would have had not time to follow up. Any other referee and Taylor wins a decision.

 

Another Chavez hater I see. I'll tell you what the FACT is, it's that the referee asked Taylor if he was ok and he didn't answer therefore he came to the conclusion that he wasn't fit to continue. It may well have been different with another referee but the result is the result. Taylor lost Chavez won and Chavez was the better fighter, deal with it.

Yes, overall, Chavez proved to be a better fighter.

But, to pretend that the ending of that fight was not hugely controversial means that you either weren't around at the time, or are yourself are biased towards Chavez.

 

All I'm saying is, Taylor suddenly looked shockingly busted up considering how few truly sharp, clean punches he took. Reminded me of Margarito-Cotto. Since I don't have any evidence though, I have to call it a gutsy, impressive win by Chavez against a man who clearly boxed his ears and nose off for 8 or 9 rounds.

 

That is an outrageous and totally baseless allegation. The fight was 26 years ago, and I have never read a single mention anywhere of his gloves being tampered with.

Chavez was a very heavy puncher. And he landed almost 250 punches on Taylor that night. That is going to cause damage to anyone.

There was never any allegation of such a thing. Believe me, the Duvas wold have been all over it if there was any inkling of it.

KoolKevin is making a huge leap here. Yes, Margarito did it but other than Chavez being Mexican I see no similarities.

LaPorte was also busted up by Chavez despite being competitive.

 

Taylor could have been at ATG but weight, drugs and other issues proved his undoing. For the Chavez I fight Taylor was killing himself to make weight.

No he's not an ATG. If he could have got past Chavez he mayyyyy have had a different future to what he had but unfortunately it didn't happen. He never fully recovered.
