Would you consider Meldrick Taylor an Atg?

It would definitely be a huge leap. I'm just saying that I've watched the fight multiple times over the years and I don't think Chavez lands nearly enough of the kind of punches that usually put that kind of severe physical damage on an opponent. I'm not making any accusations but I'm not going to pretend that it looked normal to me. I'm agnostic about what happened but I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised if there had been some kind of irregularity (probably without JCC's knowledge). Maybe I'm crazy. You really don't see any similarities between the two fights?

 

I don't know, Taylor took over the mantle of fastest hands in boxing off Davis and Camacho. Granted his speed was delivered over a great volume but he was considered to have the fastest hands of his time by various mags and experts.

It is a different display of speed to the norm i guess.

Watch his fight with Buddy McGirt. He overwhelms him with is fast combinations.

The commentators talked about it all the time.

Bottom line is he had the reflexes to throw punches in bunches.

I watched it live and knew firsthand that Chavez was winning the war. You could hear the difference in sound. He punched with vastly superior leverage, a great, great fighter near his peak.

And are you so simple to suggest that Lou Duva would not examine the handwrapping? Seriously? A Duva who had been around the sport for four or five decades?

Seriously, take a few years off to just study the sport. Then come back and try to comment.

I realize my perception of the fight is an unpopular one but no need to throw a tantrum. I'll continue to comment on fights however and whenever I see fit. Didn't realize that my talking **** would make folks act so self-righteous and butt-hurt because I can't imagine being so emotionally involved in something like this. But I get it.

 

Went back and reviewed some Taylor footage, the guy definitely had blistering handspeed.

You are bogging down on the details of the cause of this speed - the effect (the actual speed) is what we care about and what we judge.
