The fight should take place, to begin with. But if money speaks, the fight happens and pacman loses, i don't think his p4p status will change by virtue of him fighting an obviously way bigger fighter and fighting for sheer entertainment. But that's just my opinion...
No. Pac is comfortably number 1. Fighting a natural welterweight (who has fought above 147 for years) would be a silly decision, but wouldn't detriment his legacy. Basically it's win / neutral for Pac. If he wins, MASSIVE lift for legacy. If he loses, big deal, he lost to a much bigger great fighter.
It depends how you look at it because Pacquiao is wasting his time fighting DLH in a win win situation. He can't really lose much in this fight even if he gets his head knocked off. So I mean if you look at it like that then Maybe he stays up there. But if you look at it like look he is wasting his time while he could be fighting other guys like Guzman...unifying 135lbs etc..While other fighters are making a claim for lb 4 lb #1 i guess so. A loss is a loss so I don't know.
Perhaps the question should be can he regain the #1 spot from the winer of Cotto-Margrito? The answer is very likely. De La Hoya is still good and Pacquiao will have to fight at a weight that many will consider too big for him.
This isn't Rocky vs Hulk Hogan. If a fighter is worried about his p4p standing then he should fight according to what he wants out of his career. If he takes on a fight he knows he will loose only for the money than this should reflect on his legacy because he did it to himself. He had the choice. Fight Hatton for Legacy or Hoya for money. If he picks Hoya it does damage his record. If he picks Hoya there has to be that idea in him that he could defeat him and increase his p4p standing. So it should factor in.
Don't be stupid - you don't have to drop a fighter from a spot simply because they lose a fight they are widely expected to lose.
If the #1 p4p fights somebody on a higher weight division than his current weight catagory and losses. His position as #1 should not immediately drop. but if he loses from somebody on his current weight division his position in the p4p could/should/would drop. imo..
P4p rankings are against your peers so your peers should be held to the same standard. OK, Pac lost to DLH, but could you expect JMM to beat DLH? Could you expect Cotto to beat Pavlik? Could you expect Calzaghe to beat Wlad? The answers are all no so therefore he shouldnt drop. Though I think Pac can beat DLH, this fight IMO wont say much about Pac if he looses. Just that DLH is that much bigger, I think the size could be overcomed but I could be very wrong. The only affect this would have on Pac's p4p ranking if he looses is the fact that he would probably be considered inactive for 1year since that would be the length of time he would have last won a fight.
yes, i will drop him. for me, a loss will always affect the ranking even if its from a much bigger opponent. but a win doesnt always affect the rankings
Yes, of course. There is often a size difference and whoever loses he will be ranked lower. Of course. Did Mike's stock go down when he lost? Yes, of ocurse. This content is protected
