And yes, Floyd could beat him sometimes. So could Duran, Leonard, Hearns, etc. He did lose to laMotta. But noone is a favorite or wins >50% IMO.

I HAVE seen Ray Robinson ringside in his welterweight prime, and there is NO WW ever would beat Ray Robinson at his best...to compare a Floyd Mayweather with Robinson H2H is sacrilege and shows no knowledge of what SRR brought to the table...The best welterweights AFTER Robinson in modern times I have.
    Kid Gavilan
    Ray Leonard
    Tommy Hearns
    Carmen Basillio
    Emile Griffith
    Luis Rodriguez
    Jose Napoles
P.S. Some great oldtime welterweights were in historical order :
    Joe Walcott
    Tommy Ryan
    Jack Britton
    Ted Kid Lewis
    Barney Ross
    Jimmy McLarnin
    Henry Armstrong

SRR only fought around LW for the first year of his career. He was a shrewd and tough negotiator. No way this fight is at any other weight than WW. SRR went 91 fights without a loss at was 109-1 with 70kos as a WW and he fought the best of the best in an era with just one belt. He was the media darling, the draw card, he would dictate the terms of this fight.

We should note, that when Mayweather was screaming at us "Im TBE" most were disinterested. With SRR it was the total opposite, he hadn't even retired for the first time and fans and media were openly agreeing this guy is the greatest fighter ever. They even had to coin the new term "pound for pound" to define his dominance and skill level.

I wouldn't even " favour " anyone over him at 160, never mind Welterweight. The man had it all, and then some.

    As for Mayweather beating him.

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

    the straight answer is no.

i'd give srl the best chance.

duran, burley and napoles are all fair shouts too.

I think hearns would go the same way as srl 1, over 12 he's got a much better chance. floyd's chance goes up a lot over 12 too, if nothing else it'd be interesting to see how robinson deals with the handspeed and defense.

Hearns would pose a unique threat to anyone at Welterweight even the great Sugar Ray. To suggest otherwise is to deny reality. With that said Robinson had the ability to adjust and he was beyond tough and I don't see Hearns surviving a grueling fight with Robinson. The chins would probably be the difference.
Even when hurt Robinson had the ability to recover and comeback to win often by knockout. Hearns lacked that ability in his major fights but it would still be a helluva test.

No. His style could beat any at that weight. Barring an off night of course.

I agree with ETM that Hearns would be a threat.

Only two I'd say had a shot at beating SRR would be Hearns and SRL but even then I wouldn't favour either one of them over SRR. Duran might also give him problems given his style but I suspect SRR could over come this with his footwork, jab and power.

This is why this section of the forum is my favourite by far.

You are one lucky man to have seen him live, Burt! At which fight (s) did you see Ray live? And what blew you away about him?

No. The inclusion is disrespectful to both Mayweather and SRR. I hate to defend the guy, but Floyd's best is 130, so pitting him against the best fighter at WW is a little harsh. This is why Duran's win over Leonard is rated so highly and more obviously, why Floyd isn't on these guys levels.

Duran brings a really good clash of styles, probably the match up I'd be most intrigued to see. I think Robinson would handle him though.
