Would you go to a cinema to watch PPV fights?

  1. For the big fights, if we fancy a few beers we quite often go to ''Silks'' in Leeds, who quite often supply the fitties for Hennessy's and Allegedly's shows.

A mate of a mate owns it, quite often if Leeds are on Sky he'll open the joint up at 5pm and make it invite only, rugby, then a buffet and the boxing. Tenner to get in, then a subsidised bar. Can't knock it really.

BUT, my posts are just my opinion and if the OP believes in the idea then he should push it. Not meaning to sound negative or anything.

Having been to an Amir Khan fight in Manchester, I don't even wanna imagine the carnage that would ensue in an Amir Khan fight being shown in a cinema.

And I'm not talking about the glass-jawed rantings of some drunken mong.

There would need to be a lot of security in order to prevent the commencement of World War III.

In fact, taking into account that the majority of "big" fights usually take place in the small hours of the morning, I think that the whole idea sounds like a recipe for disaster. You don't need to worry about the audio for the fight cutting out, because people will be chatting constantly anyway, so you probably won't get to hear ****. In addition, you'll have people starting fights, pissing against the cinema walls, puking on the back of your head, chucking all kinds of **** through the air and generally acting the tit.

Seriously, this doesn't sound viable to me at all.

The main problem wouldnt be drunken fight, it would actually be getting the rights to screen the fight in the first place.

With all the different promotion groups and promoters out there, as well as tv deals its hard to get the fights. Add to that the costs, very very hard to make happen.

My old man has actually been doing some consultancy work over the last couple of years for a company based over here who have been working on showing live sport in the cinemas, they actully did show the the knockout games of the south african world cup live and in 3d in cinemas around the country, they also showed last year wimbledon final live and in 3d and think they're doing it this year too.

The idea of boxing was looked into, and they did have discussions with golden boy in regards to screening some of their fights. From what I understand boxing just didnt make financial sence. There arent enough big fights out there to bring in the audience and even a one off is a huge financial risk. The price for the rights alone woulnt be covered by the money made from a fully sold out cinema screen. Add to that the satellite feeds and the tech that goes behind that, and its already very expensive. So the only way it can make money is by having it shown in numerous cinemas around the country and the world...which boils down to the major problem...the fights. There arent enough out there that are big enough to bring in public on a mass scale.

So Id say although a great idea its not a realistic one.

spot on ero-sennin. from my experience some boxing shows in the uk are attended by alot of scummy mo fo's. alot of the fans attending are from underprivileged ares and underprivilaged ares breed scum no matter what colour you pop out your mums vag. i can imagine some cinema's showing these boxing bouts would be full of drunk twats that have been in the pubs and clubs all night psyching themselves up for the main event and causing nothing but **** when it starts. im not tagging all boxing fans or shows like this but the type of people im on about attend boxing shows in their drove's, they might be sporadic at the big bouts but the smaller shows are full of them, arthur vs gomes, lindsay vs appleby spring to mind as being realy bad. cinema's showing boxing in the u.k. will end in tears eventually if it ever did get the go ahead. only my opinion from my experience folks.

There is bar at my work, extra security wouldnt be a problem & staying open late wouldnt be a new thing, when avatar & dark knight was running we had 2am shows which finished arounf 5am.

Most definitely. I hate that they don't embrace this. I don't see how it is hard to do. Imagine if it was done on a fight basis like Haye vs Wlad. All they need to do is sign a deal with Vue or Odeon and get it in their main cinemas around the country.

    It would be amazing.

I would, I watched Marquez vs Katsidis in a casino cinema in Sydney and it was cool, the bar was just at the top of the steps you could get to it and back in between rounds. Thing is British fights wouldn't be shown at a cinema except something really big like Haye vs Klitschko, not enough people care, and American fights are on when they've usually closed so how would it work.

How hard would it be to drop a bunch of flyers off at few boxing gyms around the local area.
