Not as a ref I wouldn't have but had I been in his corner. Yes I would have. I would have been wrong to do so too.
I'm not sure, watching the fight on TV is completely different to refereeing it. From what I saw, I would have considered it but It's hard to put yourself in that position. Margo was hurt a few times but he also hurt Pac and he never stopped coming and throwing punches, AA fought with a broken jaw, should the ref have stopped that? The way I see it, if they are happy to fight on with an injury (broken face in this case) and they have the ability to do so, let them. You also have to know the fighters you ref to make a proper decision.
Hard to say. Part of me thinks if Margarito wanted to keep fighting then it is ok, but who knows. Although we have all seen fighters who when asked if they want to continue say yes, but their expression says no because they are so worn out and exhausted. They just don't want to be seen as a quitter, and if that is the case the trainer should know him fighter and step in. I know if I was his trainer, I would have stopped the fight in about round 10.
I would have probably stopped it in the 10th but might have thought This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected \ :think Nah ... **** It!! Joking (kinda) but then Manny being the decent guy he is, took the matter out of their hands and laid off the gas. There was at least 2 occassions in the 11th where Pac could have gone to town on Margo but stopped to look at the ref for the stoppage.
If a guy is standing and throwing punches and coming forward then you can't stop it as a ref. Then it becomes the corner's job. Garcia needed to stop that fight. Margarito had no chance and if Pac didn't let up, he could have been seriously seriously hurt.
In hindsight, Round 4/5 would have been the best time to stop the fight. Last night while the adrenaline was pumping... "Hell No!" Margo got exactly what he wanted, Either go out on his back or die trying.
