Don't agree with this. You'd be better off comparing Haye to someone who is similar in size and is a not far off contemporary like Evander Holyfield. Holyfield had a superior workrate to Haye and didn't gas like Haye. Haye may be "explosive" and "athletic", but he couldn't get around the gas issue. Haye was stopped by Carl Thompson for God's sake.
I'd love it for super fights and championship fights. It would definitely prove who is the best! It's 3 rounds of more boxing! What's not to like? We'll be able to see who is more dedicated at the end of the night.
Unathletic old timers? atsch Why would any boxing fan want to see a 9 round fight?? Mayweather vs Canelo over 9 rounds? A HW title fight over 9? Fight fans want to see two great fighters, fighting for as long as possible. If you knocked fights down from 12 to 9, a lot of fighters wouldn't train as hard, and they wouldn't be as fit. There's nothing to suggest that you'd get great action packed 9 round fights.
You're generalising like Tommo always does. Why would a 15 round fight between two great fighters be boring?? Also, there's lots of current 12 round fights that aren't fought at a hard pace for 12 rounds. If you drop the rounds, that wouldn't guarantee anything. It would probably just give fighters an excuse to not train as much. What do you mean boxing would lose popularity? Boxing had 15 round fights for many years, and a lot of fans would like to see it return. Boxing has lost popularity today, with fighters fighting less, less rounds, and more titles etc. If you've got two elite fighters going at it, who are conditioned, then you'd see a great potential 45 min fight. The longer the distance, the more a fighter has to change his approach and his tactics etc. That is intruiging to a hardcore fan. To me, watching two defensive masters for example, is just as entertaining as to hard hitters going toe to toe in the middle of the ring. I'm sure fans would have loved to have seen another 3 rounds of Kessler vs Froch, and I think if it had've been a 15 round fight, you'd still have seen the same action over the first 12. Styles make fights. I'd take that any day over a scheduled 9 rounder.
Boxing is heaps better? More divsions, fighters fighting less, less rounds, more titles? Give me less weight classes, 15 rounds, more fights, and one champion any day of the week.
15 rounders separate the real from the fake.15 rounders can take it out of the hands of corrupt judges(more frauds gassin out and getting KO'd).
I thought they came to a conclusion that the extra 3 rounds was terrible for the health of fighter. Anyways, I voted no let's not bring back 15 round fights. What we should bring back is same day weigh-ins.
The workrate of the heavies of today is not as high as it was in the 70s. And so what they had some body fat? Frazier and Ali, for example, were fit as **** when they fought each other in 1 and 3. Ever see the FOTC or even the Thrilla (when they were both past it)? I personally have never seen Wlad, Lennox or Tyson have that kind of workrate even over 12 rounds, not the 15 that the other 2 fought at.
I voted no. The reason being. Fighters would have to "save" their energy for even more rounds if that was on the cards thus making the fights more boring. Watering down 12 round into 15 rounds is a bad idea. Most boxers will lose on fatigue. That's not boxing.
I don't see Holy-Haye being competitive passed the 6th round. Holy wouldn't get ko'd by Haye- if prime Lewis couldn't stop past it Holy, Haye certainly wouldn't. After the 6th, stamina challenged Haye would start to wear done and the far more resilient Holy would stop him around the 9th. What do I base this on? Things like prime Haye's 12 punch a round snoozefest against Valuev and shot to **** Holy getting jobbed against the same giant. Or Haye's gassing against Thompson. Actually, Haye still hasn't done anything against anyone worthwhile in today's heavyweight division. He would not beat a prime Holy and would gas against him.
