If there was a boxing app which had the usual news section (with push notifications), as well as scheduled fights and fighter bios, but more importantly a video content page where you could stream an archive of fights, as well as live stream press conferences, is that something you would be inclined to buy as an app? If not, what would you want to see in a boxing app, that would persuade you to purchase it?
The cost, how difficult it is to use, time means something..............if it would show WBSS fights, such as Usyk/Gassiev for example, as USTV boycotts so many good fights, I think it's the pressure from the criminal promoters in America..............
It would need to be able to offer what Boxrec and YouTube offer, plus a little more to warrant money. Live fight streaming would be great but I don't know how legal that would be to do or how easily you'd get rights.
Thanks for the input. Would live streaming from pressers be of interest? An archive of fights with a simple search function? Anything else that you can think of that you would think was really cool for a boxing app to feature
Not personally, I don't care for pressers, but I know quite a lot of people do. But this is usually something you can find on Twitter with a bit of searching anyway. Fight archives would be cool but again it'll need to have things that YouTube doesn't - or at least offer better quality. Beyond that, a database similar to BoxRec would be good. A feed of boxing opinions/articles that are worthwhile as opposed to the cliche laden stuff you'll find in newspaper. Perhaps a prediction league similar to what we have on this forum that would allow you to track your predictions against other people worldwide, maybe with a monthly prize incentive - free tickets to a show perhaps. **** man, get me in your marketing team immediately. I do think with the amount of free content available that running a boxing app that costs is going to be a hard task.
A lot of boxing news is poorly written tripe tbh...including on boxing websites... I could easily see an app regurgitating poor quality news, if it was original content and well written I might be interested. I’d pay £4.99 but for that it would need to show fights regularly. The sky sports mobile app is about the same price and shows all sports, to give you an idea how good the app would need to be... Interesting idea but not sure I could see it being profitable...
even linking youtube accounts to the likes of IFLTV and such for interviews with fighters and build up to fights
couple of other idea's..... linking all fighters social media that you follow, and also linking to buying tickets if any promo's can be tied in with this that would be great, ie prize draws for fight tickets, certain fight ticket discounts.
even if you drop certain boxers Q&A emails or something like that. Fighters not as well known are usually very happy to do these and try and get their name out there. Even if it like set of questions that are all the same for every boxer. Something that can be done for free. Possibly speak to some of the folk on here to do articles for you, there are some very dedicated guys on here who would prob enjoy something like that. be that weekly column of the sport that week and coming up every week. Good to have polls running on it too to find out fight/punch of the month etc.
I would expect it to be free with a paid option to remove advertising (provided it was any good and fit for purpose). As others have said it would need to offer everything tube and boxrec has in a more user friendly format with a comprehensive global schedule, results and highlight service.
