I'd take Roy against just about any Middleweight in history. Maybe Hagler breaks him down late. I think he'd leave Monzon standing still wondering where he went.

lol! Duran was more skilled than anybody Roy beat at 160, Toney was the most skilled fighter Roy beat, the only reason why Toney may have been better than Duran at 160 was because of his reach, but look how well Duran did v Hagler who had a 75 inch reach, Duran was amazing, he and Leonard were the only two fighters at 160 that went the distance with Hagler in a title fight, levels.

RJJ beat Toney at 168, not 160lbs.

I agree Duran was more skilled than anyone RJJ beat at MW, but I'd heavily favour Hopkins, even the pre prime version Jones beat, to defeat any version of the naturally much smaller Duran at MW.

No. Jones is one of the most protected fighters in history but hes going to run the gamut of the deepest division in history. Hardly. And thats before you take away his steroids.

You still aren't seeing the forest for the tree's Mark. Duran at his peak was a lightweight, Toney much heavier. Toney wasn't better than Duran at 160 because of his "reach". Toney was a big fully fledged middleweight and a damn good one with plenty of skills. Duran was more skilled than Ali, Holmes, foreman and all the heavies, do you think he beats them with longer arms?

Reach is only one small facet of the game. There's been numerous great fighters that have overcome it time and time and time again. Toney is miles tougher than Duran at 160. Do you think Toney wouldn't have gone the distance with Hagler at 160?

After all these years you still haven't found the love for Roy. Remember, it's not 100% about technically correct skill and great form. There's been thousands of technically superb fighters across history that you've never even heard of. Guys like Jones are kryptonite to them - learn it, love it, embrace it.

Jones vs Duran would make the Kirkland Laing defeat seem like a close contest.

Interesting one. Id give him a good chance against all three. I know this doesn't really count but he'd never have lost to Basilio or Turpin. Sacrilege but I wouldn't write him off beating Robinson, May well have beat Hagler at middle, round about the time he beat Hopkins. Monzon never beat a RJJ AT HIS PEAK. He suffersws by losing to guys who would never have lived with him in those days.

Fergy, let me tell you a joke that Vinny Pazienza's cousin Margit once told me. A genie (jinn) is giving a guy the wish option thing and the dude says he wants a dong that's two inches from the ground. The genie whips out a machete, cuts the guys legs off to way the hell up on the thigh and leaves, having given the guy what he thought he wanted. I don't know if this matters, but Pazienza's cousin married a guy whose surname was Sapienza. It's tangential but I just think I'd want to know if I didn't know and was reading this. Anyway, I think that tells you where I'm at with this thread's central question. Because Roy didn't even need his legs cut off to get there. He could just be doing pushups. I mean, I guess that's true with all of us, to a degree, but Roy had that going for him and in addition to that, he had the fast twitch muscle fibers.
