Damn you PP, you made me take another look at Duran/PBF. Edwin Viruet drove Duran nuts with movement. So... Maybe PBF gives Duran problems as well ? I think that Duran had a little more juice at welter though... But, you got me thinking !

Vilomar Fernandez gave Arguello problems with his movement.

Duran beat the **** out of him.

I think his defense and importantly his movement and speed closing the gap could make him effective. Whether inside or mid range Hearns will be less effective at that range, especially if pushed backwards.

It depends how the fight goes in the first couple of rounds though

I don't think so, if he makes it out of the first 6 does he start to turn it around with his workrate though?

They aren't as good at forcing a fight

I'm in 2 minds over it myself, Floyd isn't a very good puncher so needs to be in control of the action. If he's forced to exchange with Duran he gets battered, if he controls the action he wins a decision, while being worked very hard for it. Fans of both want to say their man dominates but in reality, it's probably a close fight and a battle of tactics

If Mayweather is screaming to the ref for help against Ricky Hatton, there's no way known he beats the best Duran at 147.

The not quite in shape version of Leonard II? Perhaps. Although even there, Mayweather won't be able to replicate Leonard's fleet footedness to the extent Ray did.

Mayweather is quite easy to track down at 147. Even feet of stone Baldomir trapped him in the corners a few times.

Point is that Viruet with lateral movement and a good jab, gave Duran some problems. At the time, everyone was suprised that Viruet could last the distance with Duran. PBF being a much better boxer than Viruet, might give Duran a few problems before Duran gets ti him...

Floyd doesn't have a very close resemblance to the stick and move game that Viruet used, especially at welter.

And even so, when Duran's title was on the line, he pretty convincingly beat the **** out of Viruet.

I smell a little pro-Duran bias here, most notably because Duran quit like a ***** against Leonard and Mayweather almost knocked Hatton's head off.

Right because beating and then quitting against Leonard is still way better than beating hatton and not quitting. Plus, I don't even think you got his point. His point was.. if Hatton could make May and his corner scream to the ref about hatton on the inside.. what would he be saying about Duran... probably nothing.. he would just leave the ring or never even step in it. To go further... if Castillo and cotto could pressure floyd and get him against the ropes and have there way with him there... imagine what a good version of Duran would do? even better maybe?

    147\154 mayweather vs Kalule

8-4\9-3 for the african who in the process looks like a legandary combination of Duran, Napoles and Starling\jofre defensively when put up against the tepid offence of Floyd.

    Pretty big stretch there

I think using the Hatton fight may have some validity, Hatton close the gap and forced the fight but was still neutralised and couldn't land. Mayweather didn't fight on the back foot too much against Hatton though and didn't respect him as an opponent.

It's a pity we didn't have Mayweather-Spinks in 2006, that would have been an interesting match up, maybe similar to Kalule, a better contest than Baldomir

He wouldn't look that good but yes, Kalule would beat Floyd IMO
