Would you rather see Wlad fight somebody else?

Povetkin, Greenberg, Tua, Dimitrenko, Virchis, Chagaev, Peter, Maskaev, and Valuev would all be as interesting, if not more.

As far as who he should be fighting? Eh, I don't really care. That's not how I view the heavyweight division. Doesn't matter much to me who any titlist fights as long as it isn't a can. I can take or leave unification, take or leave fights with top-rated guys that are going to be "good for the division". I'd rather see interesting and exciting fights.

 

that's true in a sense. while peter got soundly outboxed, he did make wladimir have to work for that win. even though wladimir was not really hurt, he did get thrown off his game on a couple occassions.

therefore your logic seems fair. but you also have to factor in a couple more things. wladimir is getting better, while peter has gotten worse.

don't believe me? watch their fights since they fought each other.

wladimir: no matter what people say about brewster, wladimir still beat him easily in their rematch AND almost did it with one hand. he also ko'ed austin who is crap (but definately a step up from long) with ONLY the left hand. he also beat the crap out of byrd, whereas he had to settle for a shutout years earlier. he also beat brock and made it look easy.

peter: got dropped 3 times (and they are what you call really legit knock downs ) by mccline who is another wladimir victim. he couldn't ko toney who has zero desire and a former middleweight and also extremely overweight, twice! and the first time he argubly lost! and finally he fought long as his come back fight after wladimir. those replays of the ko of long looked more like a scared fighter wanting out, rather than peter laying on the hurt. long lost the mind game and quit. afterall he recently gave olandier solis a solid workout, so you have to wonder if he would have done the same to peter if he got pass the early jitters.

so judging the performances of both fighters since they met, do you STILL believe in your heart that peter has a better chance than say, povetkin or chagaev? :think

P.S. and since when has the wbo become a "joke belt"? i mean, it wasn't long ago that haters were saying wlad NEEDS the wbo belt to redeem himself due to losing it, and linage etc etc etc. so the moment ibragimov won it off briggs, that makes the belt a joke? what happened to the linage? the requirement he needs that belt so badly to redeem himself?

So, say you get your way, and Wladimir does fight Valuev, or the titleless Peter (Peter has not title, only the right to fight for Maskaev's title), and regardless of WHO wins, what is the benefit of having yet another defense?

that puts us not one step closer to clearing up the ongoing mess of having four meaningless titleholders. Nothing whatsoever would come of that, outside of a fight that may or maynot be a good fight. STILL four seperate titleholders, all claiming to be the man, and none really BEING the man.

If you think about it in long term, and how sad the division is right now, you can clearly see how much more important title unification is, regardless of if its competitive, or not.

The Heavyweight title needs to be unified, so this is the right fight at this present time for Klitscho.

 

It's a shame it's for the WBO title which has never held any significance in the heavyweight division.

 

Right now, I couldn't care less about quality of opposition. What I want to see is unification, so that in the future the biggest and best fights can take place. Ibrgaimov isn't the worst fighter out there, but most importantly, is a world champion. Wlad should beat him and then carry on in his bid to unify all the belts, which will hopefully happen in the future.

You have to look at the bigger picture concerning this fight. In the grand scheme of things, it's the right bout for boxing to have.

Yes of course, but after the 23rd Feb, there will be only 3 not 4 boxers claiming to be the Heavyweight champion of the world.Thats got to be a plus.

 

True & there will only be one if someone manages to unify all the belts until the WBA sanction a fight for their "regular" title.:roll:
