ah, i like it, a bit of psychometric testing for boxing followers to weed out the fanboys. now if only there was a way of culling them once theyve been found out...
not really fair. my favorite fighter is ricky hatton, a local lad who i've followed since the start. him losing to mayweather pissed me off for weeks. i hate losing ,whether its my football team, a bet ,anything.much rather the lad wins than goes down as a valiant loser, a la frank bruno.thats the british way isn't it. if that makes me a fanboy so be it.
A. without question....good points about Hearns, Ottke, and Erdei Hearns was great despite losing in great fights, while Ottke and Erdei are bums that fight cabdrivers
well obviously the point of a boxing match is for someone to win, but i dont support any fighters. there are fighters who have styles i like and those i dislike but what i want to see is a good fight, regardless of who wins. going into their fight i preferred watching cotto fight but i felt margo was just too big for him, but I enjoyed the fight nonetheless and maragrito made a good impression on me, but i won't lose sleep if he loses similarly, ricky hatton probably got me into boxing and even though in recent years id stopped enjoying his fights i would have preferred him to win than mayweather, but i placed a bet that he would get sparked out as I felt he was out of his league. when he did lose i was glad id won the bet and hatton losing didnt effect me. i thought he put on a poor show and floyd deserved to win. the fight itself wasnt particularly good, even if the occasion was massive
There's no shame in giving your all and best and losing to a top fighter at his best ; however, there is shame in asking people to pay $50 to watch you beat up a bum in an indifferent display. IMO.
The proof of the pudding is this: If your favourite fighter had only been involved in A-type fights, he'd be an ATG; he performed at A-/A level throughout his career and was only beaten by A/A+ fighters performing at an A/A+ level....he's your favourite fighter because he's bloody good, always fought the very best and gave his all. If your favourite fighter was only been involved in B-tyoe fights, he'd be a nobody; he performed at a B/B+ level throughout his career and only beat B-/B level fighters performing at a B-/B level. ...so, why, in that case is he your favourite fighter? After all, he did dodge risky challenged just to keep that "0", and only prayed on the overrated and unproven. That's right...you're a fan because you like his haircut!
While you lose no respect for A, who wants to see their fav fighter take an L. Valiantly or not, an L is an L. And although there can be great victory in defeat, (i.e. see Paulie Malignaggi), in the boxing industry your -0- is unfortunately a very valuable commodity. Just ask Mayweather.
