Would you really be surprised if Hopkins beats Calzaghe?

Biggest test since he fought RJJ and we know what happened there...not to mention he found time to fail inbetween...

 

Exactly, I think Hopkins was poss too green when he fought jones, hopkins got better with age, but I mean, if Taylor can beat him, however questionably, JC has to be favourite, he has all the things to negate hops skills, JC is awesome

 

That is not true. Hopkins lost two close decisions to Taylor but beat Joppy, Holmes, Johnson & Eastman to name a few. Hopkins reputation is not solely built around the Trinidad win, however, Tito came into that fight favourite remember & holds far more significance than wins over Kessler or Lacy.

This is definitely Joe's biggest test of his career. People try to gloss over his resume but deep down most know it's been padded at best.

Thats a fair assessment but I still think Joes yet to face anyone who can adapt their style mid fight hence why I think this is a step up in class for him.

His persona, his stigma is based on the De la Hoya, Trinidad, WW fights, all fighters from lower weight classes. And as for Trinidad being favourite, that doesnt mean jack, Lacy was fav for his and JC's clash, but we educated fans knew better in both instances!

I dont think HOP beating Tito is more significant than JC beating Kessler, was Tito a double belt holder when he fought HOP? dont think so, did hopkins beating tito unify the division, no, it was an exhibition match at best, Tito is a great, but not at 160, WW is great, but at 154, not 170, de la hoya is a great from 140-154, not 160.

Also, JC hasnt ever lost, Hop lost to someone as flawed as Taylor, albeit some say controversially.

Hopkins Jab wont be as much of a factor as his lead right will be.

I will be very surprised if Hopkins wins this and will have to give him enormous credit if a victory is not tainted by bull**** refereeing and judgeing.

Beating Tito did unify the division. Please dont talk to me about the WBO. Tito came into the fight as favourite for a reason. He wasn't just a hype job he had world class pedigree albeit in lower weight classes. He beat a solid middle in Joppy.

I hope theres no controversy but don't be surprised if someone, finally, warns Joe for his cuffing. People seem to conveniently forget some of the favours Joe has been done over the years.

 

I would be very surprised if Joe dominates and/or stops Hopkins as some here are predicting. I think Calzaghe is rightfully the clear favourite but Hopkins is a live underdog.

Mate i just noticed this post.

Try and be objective here Hopkins himself has been involved in a few gimmes to say the least.

In the years immediatley following his undisputed middleweight title win he takes on Carl Daniels and Morrade Hakkar.

Not to mention the ****ing trilogy with Robert Allen.

All fighters are guilty of this. Ill say this in regards to the fighters respective records: Hopkins has never ever beat a fighter as good as Mikkell Kessler.
