Would you say Tyson Fury is one of Wlad's top ten opponents?

from year 2000 to 2002 Wlad fought some pretty outstanding names.

He fought Barret back when two guns was a hotshot and considered pretty damn good (one loss to Whitaker that was supposed to be a top 10 contender), he fought McCline when he was considered a legit top 10 threat, Mercer, Botha, Schulz

Many people only remember these names in connection with their unsuccessful past-prime runs, but many of those guys were top fighters at the time Wlad fought them.

The ultimate top 10 would be:

    1. Byrd
    2. Povetkin
    3. Haye
    4. Thompson
    5. Ibragimov
    6. Chagaev
    7. Mercer (only on 7th because of the version that Wlad fought, Mercer was no spring chicken)
    8. Peter
    9. Brewster
    10. Pulev

There is a chance Fury makes it into top 10 IF after the loss (or a spectacular showing/win) he does not retire but instead batters his way back to #1 challenger spot, like Povetkin has. Sascha literally went hulk smash on his path to a rematch.

At any point in time until his detached retina, I'd take Brock over Fury. What's humorous about that.

I wouldn't say that. Haye struggled with Chisora. Fury shut him out in cruise control.

In actual fact , Haye drew upon everything he had to get Chisora out of there , luckily for Haye he had the power. Fury didn't need big power when he toy'd with Chisora.

But if Fury really wanted to he could have blasted him out early. He used him to shed ring rust and experiment new tactics. Fury beat Chisoa far more convincingly than Haye.

I believe Haye realized that night that his time was up as a heavy weight. He did not look impressive and was clearly slowing down. Fury would have busted him up badly.

So by your criteria is beating Razor Ruddock - former title holder - still active - a better win than a guy from the current top 10?

Valeuv was finished and never fought again. To mention Ruiz is laughable. Toney had made easy work of him 5 years earlier- go back a further 5 years and Roy Jones beat him . TWO middle weights!

Chisora and Cuningham are better win than Ruiz and maybe even Hammer as well.

I'd say no as saying yes would mean I'd pick him over one of:

    Povetkin

    Haye

    Thompson

    Purev

    Peter

Byrd? Actually that's it which mean I would have to say yes he is which says a lot about Wlad's era of heavyweights. What a terrible age of heavyweight boxing he's 'ruled' over

    Nope.

Prime Thompson would wipe the floor with Fury. After he took out Price Tyson didn't want anything to do with even an old shot version of the tiger.

Thompson was never ranked as high as #3. He was a nobody even when prime. This fact over rules your opinion.

He does nothin better than Fury

    Other than boxing...

And you're not taking into account when Fury is ranked number three and who he's had to beat to get there.

He's beat nobody of note to get this shot and ran from anyone anywhere near his own size.

Chisora gave him some problems no doubt, Chisora gets underrated but Haye's performance for me is more impressive than Fury's.

As I've have mentioned before in previous threads to you, your comparison is deeply flawed for a number of reasons.

    - Ruddock never won a world title as you suggested so clearly a win over an old shot contender isn't going to be as good as a win over a current top 10 fighter.

    - Even if Ruddock did win a title the current Ruddock is way, way more shot at 51 than the Ruiz, Haye fought or Valuev. If you think Ruddock now is better than the Ruiz and Valuev Fury fought you need your head examined.

    - Even if you used a better former champion in your example, Fury's next best wins after Chisora are Johnson and Cunningham who were coming off a loss, they weren't top 10 material when Fury beat them.

Hmm... Is Fury a better opponent than Jameel McCline was? Remember, "Big Time" was coming of 3 straight top ten wins at that time. I am on the fence whether Fury knocks Jameel outa Wlads top ten or not.
I don't think it's fair to wait until after the fight to decide though. Not fair to Wlad because if he performs great then people will say "Nope, Fury just stunk"

Certainly few WK challengers have been given a 33% chance by the bookmakers, I think Povetkin was similarly priced, Haye was maybe the slight underdog. Can't think of anybody else who was better than 5's. If he gives Wlad a close fight then he'll be rated as a top challenge if he gets ktfo'd then obviously not.

Fury at 6'8/6'9 good basic skills, and footwork is just a different type of fighter,i would go far as to say hes the best bigman moving ive ever seen. Will that help him against an opponent like wlad?highly unlikely but its the only way he can fight him,and that's not just standing there.I imagine Fury would give all the fighters other than Joshua fits if he fights his fight, but wlad is not that guy either.
