Or, you just end up annoying the living **** out of everyone, even the fans of the fighters you're defending.

Wow. You really may have a disability. That analogy is completely at ends with Ruiz's case.

You could call yourself Canadian if you were raised in Canada, had a Canadian family, had Canadian citizenship, and fought for Canada in Olympics.

    Just as,
Ruiz calls himself Mexican as he was raised in Mexico, has a Mexican family, has Mexican citizenship, and fought for Mexico in Olympics.

Naw, he's the first Mexican heavy weight champion. He is Mexican by decent but American by birth. He is claiming the title for his people more so than a country. However whatever he choses to claim is his business and more power to him. Look at Lennox Lewis, he is from Jamaica but the Brits had no problem claiming him.

Re. the is The Mexican Oliver Hardy Mexican or American debate.

I think that was AJ's big mistake re. his US debut. He should've fought an American Level opponent instead of a Mexican Level one. Shame Bum Squad was too much of a female dog to step up to the plate. Maybe if Hearn had offered him 120 million grains of chicken feed instead of $120 million it might have tempted him out of the coop?

I'm not defending anybody. And it's not my intention to annoy anybody. It's to talk boxing and generate a worthwhile discussion.

A slip of paper means nothing in comparison to his blood, culture, and upbringing. All of which are Mexican.

Look I'm not trying to upset you, and I'm not trying to disrespect any Mexican Americans. I've said repeatedly that there's nothing wrong with being proud of your heritage. Ruiz should be proud of him being a Mexican - American but he's not a Mexican World Champ.

Lets take other Mexican - American fighters in the past. How about Oscar De La Hoya. When he won his first World Title was he seen as a Mexican World Champion or a United States World Champion ?

A slip of paper means you don't get deported, A slip of paper means you have all the rights and privileges of an American citizen.

The law says you're a child at 17 years, 364 days, 23 hours and 59 minutes. But add 1 minute and you're a fully grown adult.

We make the best rules we can, but they don't always reflect reality. Everything about Ruiz is Mexican except where his mom was one day.

Blood, culture, upbringing, "heart" > Coordinates of his birth.

Sounds good but it don't erase the fact that the man was born in the USA. That's a fact. Now he can denounce his citizenship and birthright and pledge his allegiance to the country of Mexico but he hasn't done that and until then he is considered an American of Mexican decent.
