I'm not sure I would myself. I have a nine-year-old nephew who does karate. I'm very reluctant to show him the UFC fighting contests. because I don't want him getting into it.

    What do you guys think?

I really get the feeling that MMA fighters are largely exploited for our benefit. I just see a small number at the top making big money. And the thousands of other wannabes are basically brutal knock out fodder earning a few thousand pounds.

I'm part of it to, because I enjoy the gladiatorial side of things, the brutal gore etc. for me though it is firmly adult entertainment. I wouldn't want kids anywhere near it.

9 may be a bit to young, but I guess that depends on his maturity. He is probably playing video games and watching films where violence is the norm anyway, so he'll either think it's 'cool' and take it in his stride, or realise the difference between screen & professional combat. I guess you just got to explain he cant be going around armbarring his school mates or kneeing them from a Muay Thai clinch as it has long term effects on their health and months in a hospital thats rarely seen in a UFC PPV

But I do think you should maybe trust his intelligence a little bit. If he does watch and thinks 'Id like to do that' then a few trips to a gym will be enough to show him being a Pro isnt as easy as it looks. And if he sticks with it, well being dedicated and persisting at something that's hard to do isnt the worst thing in the world in terms of building charactor. But I do understand your concern about his safety.

To use the old cliche 'Fighter's are not made, they are born'' so he's either going to persue it or he's not, to put it simply. But Im sure he'd appreciate his Uncle telling him the Pro's & Cons of the fight game and respecting him enough to make up his own mind. Because the heavy handed 'No way!' approach may make him more determined to persue it

    What's his ground-game like? :think

If he does karate perhaps first you need to ask Mr Seagal what he thinks is the best option and then make your choice.
