Would Young have been able to beat 1973-1974 Foreman?

What was Young's initiative to lie? Especially at that point, when the judges are tallying scores. He's basically saying "Yeah, Round seven is Foreman's. Big time."

Anubis.....you are delusional. Why would you post such incredibly misleading ideas?

Young was hit with a great left hook and staggered around the ring. The punch was no phantom. Youngs corner was telling him he was way ahead after six rounds. No fighter under those circumstances would risk fake staggering all over the ring as he did. The ref who was not one of the best could have easily stepped in and stopped the fight. Secondly I just rewatched Youngs post fight comments. He stated not once but twice that he did not think "he was going to make it". He further stated that Foremans punches were "very heavy"

I watched that bout live and have watched it many times since. I was a HUGE Young supporter in those days and never in my wildest dreams did I ever think his staggering all over the ring (and nearly going down) was faked. Utter hogwash. You believe in Santa also?

Perry, I sat on Santa's lap many, many times when I was growing up. I feel very badly for you that you never met him. Great guy who always got me everything I asked for.

Translation: I can't argue what you just said so I'm changing the subject.

I agree...before Ali...Jimmy was hurt in that round; I don't understand this "he was playing with George BS"
It was post-Ali George that threw wildly after hurting Young; As Young fans we were all 'atitter' when he started countering towards the end of the round knowing his head was clearing.
Sidebar: A pre-Ali Foreman would have had Lyle out like a light sometime in, say, the 2nd round.

No you couldn't have. Even though it's wrong. Foreman was able to cut the ring on a 1974 Ali and forced him to change his strategy. Now we all know, Young was no 1974 Ali.

Perhaps we should ask George himself how solidly he connected with that hook, or anything else he threw at a retreating, slipping, sliding, running and rolling Young, if you think he'll tell the truth.

Meanwhile, what do you suppose the truth behind his long hiatuses after Ali and Young were? Was it the inaction of a man who knew he could knock out his conquerors in rematches if given the chance?

Foreman was wailing away, trying to connect solidly on a blade of grass and shatter that blade of grass.

Jimmy Young had a grass jaw.

Young was in to survive, hold, and complain against a George who fought (at first) measured and then desperate. George, not acclimated to the oppressive heat of San Juan by arriving late there(as well as dealing with a broken air conditioning system), proceeded to exhaust himself in the fight. George even thought he won the fight on points. Foreman of '73 or '74 stops Young.

George had experienced oppressive heat during his previous defeat in Kinshasa. Gil Clancy told him to get to San Juan three weeks in advance to acclimate himself properly to those conditions, and was disregarded. Stupid, stupid, stupid and stupid on Foreman's part.

Now, he thought he won the fight on points. Okay, DOES HE LEAVE BOXING FOR TEN YEARS IF HE GETS AWARDED THE DECISION?????

I give George of 91 a better chance against prime Jimmy Young than the 73 or the 77 versions,.

Big deal. Stevie Wonder does that all the time, just like Helen Keller did... (Man, I hope Stevie Wonder doesn't read this!)
