Wait for some like Cotto to build his star power or wait for someone like Pacquiao to move up the ranks and make a mega fight.

As much as I thought it to be ridiculous ... Pacquiao moving all the way up to light welterweight isn't out of the question and fighting a welterweight star at a catch weight is definitely out of the question.

I can see Pacquiao breezing through Diaz and possibly fighting the winner of Hatton v Malignaggi and having a great chance of beating them for a 4th and 5th alphabet belt -- 5th and 6th weight class ... setting up a mega fight with PBF.

If Cotto fights and beats Margarito ... then fights someone like Berto (if he were to obtain the WBC) ... and beating him ... I can see Cotto building himself up to a mega - mega - mega fight w/ PBF ...

PBF is 31 and in his prime ... tonight I expect HBO to announce his retirement on air ... but it could possibly be a negotiation ploy on the part of PBF.

If Vinny Pazienza can make it all the way up to super middleweight or someone like James Toney, Roy Jones, and Chris Byrd can make it all the way up to Heavyweight ... then there's no doubt that Pacquiao can fight at or around welterweight ...

What do you guys think of these possibilities? ...

I mean there was talk of a Pacquiao v DLH fight ... there's no reason why it could come to a reality.

Pac would get murdered by either one. I doubt he lasts more than 2 rds vs. DLH, maybe 4 against PBF.

That doesn't matter ... i'm sure the world would pick him ... especially considering a long PBF layoff ... and the dramatic weight class jumps ... add to that he has a huge fan base ...

Screw waiting on Pacquiao to build himself up to welterweight. PBF doesn't have to wait for Cotto to beat Margarito to be a mega fight. That is BS. It would already be a mega fight. I am sure people feel that Cotto is much more of a threat than friggin Hatton! Miguel and Floyd are the two best in the division, both undefeated, what the hell else needs to be said. It isn't going to get any better. The two best guys FIGHT EACH OTHER plain and simple.

The whole point of his retirement is that he doesn't want to step to Cotto.

We won't know if it would already be a mega fight till the numbers are set on Cotto v Margarito --

No because if he was retired i'm sure that HBO wouldve announced it tonight considering that Floyd is an HBO fighter ... and he's their number 1 guy and the number 1 guy in the sport ... I think this is used for Floyd to put his face out in the public and gain more leverage in negotiations in a future mega bout ... there's no one out there right now that has enought clout.

You can't say Cotto because he had the lowest ratings in WCB history with his fight w/ Gomez so no one was tuning in on that fight ... and just because us die hard fans would like to see the fight doesn't mean the casual fans or the weekend warriors would want to see it.

BS man, why do you have to wait for that? You tellin me people thought Hatton was a bigger challenge than Cotto? Or that Oscar was a bigger threat? C'mon and get serious. BOTH FIGHTERS ARE UNDEFEATED! COTTO IS THE NUMBER ONE RANKED CHALLENGER! THE TWO BEST FIGHTERS FIGHT TO FIND OUT WHO IS THE BEST!

Hatton might not have been a bigger challenge but he did pose a serious threat ... alot of people thought that Hatton was good enough to pull off the upset.

Hatton also has a huge fan base ... he brought 10's of thousands of British fans to Vegas to watch him fight Floyd alot didn't get the chance to make it into the arena and watched them at local bars.

He also packed 50+ thousand fans to a huge soccer stadium in manchester to watch him fight a relative unknown ...

Hatton sold 1m buys in the UK (sky sports net) and contributed a nice chunk of the numbers done world wide ...

    Cotto can't do that ...

    Spion ...

Where was Cotto at when Floyd was moving up in the ranks?

Where was Cotto when Floyd was winning championship after championship? ...

Where was Cotto at in 98' when Floyd was fighting Genero Hernandez? ...

The thing is that Cotto just started with this wave of belief from Mayweather haters ... but so was Hatton, DLH, Judah, and Baldomir ...

Where was Cotto at in 05' when Floyd and his team offered Cotto and his team a fight at 140? ... they along with TopRank immediately declined ... anyone on these boards can tell you that bro.

Don't put so much faith in Cotto when your beef is with Mayweather.

Oh? Why not? If he fights Floyd you don't think that will sell out? I KNOW IT WILL! Take a poll and find out who everyone wants to see Mayweather fight. They aren't even INTERESTED in seeing him fight anyone else.

There are two fighters in one division. Both are undefeated. In boxing those two fighters fight to see who is the best. It is simple really. Floyd doesn't need to fight Madonna because she weighs in at welterweight and has more fans than all the belt holders combined. He needs to fight the NUMBER ONE CONTENDER.

I personally am a believer that Floyd's so called retirement is just a publicity stunt. WHEN the pretty boy returns to the ring there will be the added intrigue of his "comeback" which will generate more publicity and ultimately more money with whomever he should fight. Also by "retiring" he hopes to alleviate some of the scrutity of the media for not fighting the big named welters; primarily Cotto. From this standpoint its a smart business decision however I've grown tired of his antics and can't help but to feel slighted. As a fight fan I would like to see Floyd fight all of the big names of the division and prove his status as an ATG in the welter weight division.

    Fitz,
Bud, you just cannot overcome simple logic. Your points of contention are nothing more than veiled excuses. You are just parroting what Mayweather and others have said. Nothing new and nothing noteworthy.
