Totally agreed :thumbsup this kind of thing happens all the time so why does everyone moan that haye doesnt deserve his shot? what about the others, Calzaghe, Pavlik, Hopkins, Hatton, Pacman come on
And you notice nobody bats an eyelid when Arreola's mentioned as the alternative? Who the hell's Arreola beaten to "deserve a title fight"?
It doesn't make sense to Haye as it would be an unnecessary risk. It makes sense to boxing to have two top contenders face off, but not to the individual. Frankly, it doesn't make sense to Arreola as he's better off with another learning fight or two. I don't really have a problem with Haye going after the title shot. As others have mentioned, champs move up in weight for title shots quite regularly. If it makes financial sense, sure, make it happen. But as good as a fan fight as Haye/Arreola may be, I don't think it really works for either guy. It's boxing, don't expect it to make too much sense.
This is a good point. I don't think anyone can argue that Haye has been in with FAR supperior competition. Other than Povetkin, no one has fought anything that resembles an eliminator. "Deserve" just doesn't seem to factor into it these days. Remember when Wlad and Peter had to fight an eliminator? Things have changed a great deal even since then, it seems.
Supperoir competition? Like those Itallian gyus or the local British Enzo? David did not fought any rising and solid cruiserweight. The only name on his record is downhill Mormech who retired afterwards. And for a reason.
'Records show' that Haye has fought in and beaten a much higher class of competition than Arreola. Can you explain how going to fight the recognised number one fighter in your division in their hometown on a bill promoted by their own promoter, Don King, is not a 'risky fight' and which of Arreola's fights you would see as more of a risk than that? Haye stated from day one that he wanted to win the titles at CW, then move to HW. The Maccarinelli fight happened because Frank Warren threw some cash at Haye and Haye felt he could take four minutes of his time to knock Maccarinelli out. Who are these 'solid Cruiserweights' he should have stuck around to fight at that time?
Tell one solid fighter Johanssen has beaten, please? Fragomeni is nothing special in particular. I am not sure but Enzo may be even better than Fragomeni. By the way the scoring in that Fragomeni fight in amateurs was a joke. Haye should have got the decision.
Would be a great fight.... and i think Haye would finish what Travis Walker started and nearly finished. His defence is too weak and he is somewhat slow... Haye is a speed demon by comparison. If Chris does land something big, it can go the other way of course.
Still waiting for a list of all these 'solid fighters' you think Haye should have been fighting at CW around early 2008?
Good point on Haye not wanting to risk his big payday. It's a shame but that's gotta be the only reason.
