Also, I would recommend to anyone who wants to see a lot ofclassic amateur videos of today's top pros and see a lot of the up and coming talent in amateur boxing today to watch the videos on DC Amateur Boxing's Youtube channel. Just some awesome stuff up there.

No, that's in Prince George's County. About 5 miles from the Southeast DC line. I went and I'm uploading some of the bouts now from last night. There were some good bouts.

They have so many gyms around here, it's crazy. Hagerstown, Rockville, DC (several) , Clinton, District Heights, Virginia (several), Baltimore (several), Landover, West Virginia . . .just off the top of my head. There are 37 gyms in Potomac Valley alone. Throw in South Atlantic (Batlimore area and everything in MD except PG and Montgomery) and there are a lot of gyms and boxers in this area.

Oh, I remember. Isn't Clinton where Old School's at too?
How did my mans Demond Nicholson do last night? Did Thomas Williams or Joel Young box?

It was, they moved up the street now to a bigger space. They are closer to the DC line now. Our gym's owner coached at Old School before he opened Dream Team about a year ago.

No TW or Joel, but Demond won, but he didn't look that good. Not sure what was going on. I'll u/l that one too. He fought 157lbs. against a boxer from Harrisburgh, PA.

Big show it sounds like, where in Landover was it? I hear Demond's been getting a lot better lately, when he was younger he was kind of a 50/50 fighter but he's been improving a lot. I know he won PAL this year, I heard USA Boxing wants him to go open when he's 16.

i can't believe this. The kids that age at my gym do 1.5 to to minute rounds at the most. These boys are going at a full throttle pace for every second of the round.
I thought the kid in the white was the better boxer and had brilliant footwork and technique but the kid in the black was throwing body shots that you don't see most pro's throwing.

The boxing level was of fighters twice there age. Alot hard work must have been put in by these boys.

Can I ask what one of their gym sessions would consist of for my only help? I'm 17 and an amateur boxer too, would love to have a look at their regime.

22 bouts scheduled, probably had 19 go. Last show before our local Silver Gloves begin on 12/12 - so a lot of gyms trying to get the work in. Demond lost a lot of weight and is getting taller. I would agree that he has improved a lot and I think he still may be able to drop a little in weightclass, but we'll see.

IMO, best bouts were Russell Gaskins vs. Cornelius Whitlock and Patrick Harris vs. Malik Jackson. Pat is the son (and quasi little brother) of Lamont and Anthony Peterson. I'll have both of those up.

Damn. Any shows in the 12/18-1/3 range? I'm going to be back in town then, might want to stop by just to see. BTW, are you guys anywhere near Round 1? That's down in Capitol Heights from what I remember. Demond has lost a lot of weight; he's burned a lot of that baby fat and he's getting pretty muscular and tall now. I remember him when he was a 12 year old 112 pounder.

I can tell you that they have a great coach. Really, that's most of it. They always do 3 minute rounds and usually more than just 3 rounds with their other team mates - even on the day from the video. This was just the three between these two. Regimine is nothing really unique - warmup (jumprope, stretching, etc), shadowboxing, bagwork and pad work and running. A lot of running. I will never forget a '92 US Olympic Boxing Team coach telling me that 90% of the time, the boxer that is in the best condition will win a bout. That stuck with me and I believe that conditioning is key. I do our boxers' conditioning that consists of various drills/exercises done until failure like burnout rounds of non-stop punches. But again, it's really the coaching and time in the gym. The little guy in the video has been doing this for almost 5 years now and his coach has coached other national champions. If you want more details on specific drills, just PM me. Can't give away all the secrets. ;)

December 20th Keystone Boxing Club Show in Clinton @ OCC Sports Arena 6701 Clinton Manor Dr., Clinton, MD 20735. If you search "2008 Keystone Boxing Show", that was the last OCC Show and the gym is where the Russells train, so they will be there and there should be some good action on the 20th. Boosie (Gary Derrike Russell) and Antonio both boxed on the show that night. It will also be the last show before our Regional Silver Gloves in North Carolina, so again a lot of boxers will try to get some work before going out of town.

Round 1 closed a while back and I know they moved somewhere, but I'm not sure where they are. That's about 10 miles from us. We are around the corner from where Old School used to be.

Ok, I was maybe going to head down that way and work with Luke Runion a bit, gotta see where they're at. I'll probably go to that show on the 20th then, especially if some of my buddies are fighting.
