Clottey did land the better punches minus the knockdown jab by Cotto so I guess some people think it was a beat down, but Clottey would spend way too much time covering up at times letting Cotto tee off and gave the fight away.
yes, I had a draw and that was with the KD, a few even rounds I had. just clottey should had been able to do more with that condition cotto in there... the KD round was a 10/9 not 10/8 for me. what judges are failing bigtime with is automatic 10/8 round with a KD.
Close fight and not a beatdown. The knockdown was the decider. I don't have problem if it was scored either way.
me either. if clottey was ever going to get a dec win against a name opponent that would have been it. didn't happen, oh well, that's why he is a journeyman
What should be remembered about this close fight is Cotto being hit with a flying headbutt, splitting his eye very badly in the fourth. Which at the completion of, Cotto was up at 3-1, he could've quit on that eye, took it to the cards and called it a victory and a day which is what most fighters would've done against far lesser fighters. It took some serious grit to have continued on with Clottey when you didn't have to, and in that condition.
Marg and Pac were both setting records with their output around that time, so maybe he just can't handle the volume. I remember being super disappointed when he fought Pacquaio and just turtled up into a defensive shell to make it to the end. He really did just go in there for a check, and then try to survive without a hope of winning the fight.
and cotto still won and stayed in there like the G that he is with a big as gash on his eye gushing out blood. so thanks for pointing out props for cotto hanging in there and fighting all 12 rounds. its called heart not alot of ppl wouldve kept going, they wouldve threw in the towel. troll
Cotto won that fight by a really slim margin maybe the knockdown. But fact was Cotto got Hit with a huge headbutt that change the whole fight, actually Cotto didn't even train because of problems with His uncle being involved and a fight with Him that got in to lawsuit, then Cotto father die too. But still the only fighter to blame that night was Clottey for covering up the last two rounds letting a legit win escape just like Hoya did with Tito the only thing was that Hoya still was ahead.
I had Cotto barely beating Clottey on my scorecard . Its definitely not a win Miguel should be bragging about , that's for sure . On the flipside , Clottey could not take full advantage of a partially blind bloodied up Cotto .
Clottey had no marketability. None. It's no surprise he took a nice little backhander against Pacquiao
