Any thoughts on this? I never knew the fight was even discussed, why didn't it happen? Seemed like it would have sold great. I personally think if Naz's weak defense caught a left hook it would have been over.

naz would outspeed him and outclass him if he kept his balls where they need to be

gatti is one of the most one dimensional brawlers i think i've ever seen

Hamed is a class above Gatti, he'd take Gatti's head off, too much speed, too much power, better defense, more angles.

hamed had no heart though, and at 130 you better believe gatti had the power to get hamed outta there too.hamed did hold numerous advantages but when the fight would've turn into a toe to toe war he'd be found wanting against gatti.imo.

Hamed had plenty of heart, to say otherwise is like saying Gatti had no heart, Hamed got up countless times from KDs.

The size thing is 1 thing going against Hamed but Augie Sanchez was also a 130lber that Hamed faced, a puncher with big amateur pedigree having beaten .

Around the time this fight was being talked about Gatti moved up and got beaten up and stopped by Manfredy. Gatti just tries to walk through punches and against the best takes beatings

how much heart did hamed show post barrera?im not knocking his skill or power but gatti is a handful for anyone at 130.i just see hamed rocking gatti get reckless goin for the ko & gettin dropped & stopped by a left hook.the big thing goin against arturo would've been the ti ing of the fight, late 97-early 98 was when he was at the height of wild days outside of the ring.

I liked Gatti, but I think Naz would have smashed him to pieces.

That has nothing to do with in the ring heart. Hamed supposedly had 100million in the bank and didn't like making weight, plus his skills had clearly diminished, so he went to enjoy his money

Gatti's defense is just insanely open, watch what Manfredy does to him around this time and then imagine if a much bigger puncher like Hamed was throwing those shots

I don't agree with Gatti being a hard fight for anyone at 130, what if he'd been in with Mayweather, Corrales or Casamayor instead of Manfredy? Gatti looked 'prime' when he was fighting at a lower level

Gatti has a chance because he's Italian.

I disagree with some people saying Naz didn't have any heart. He was arrogant, a ***** at times, but because he got a shellacking and schooling by Barrera doesn't mean Naz didn't have any heart. He just didn't have the proper gameplan and simply didn't have the smarts to compete with Barrera. Prior to that fight he was known to get up from being knocked down and returning the favor or knocking the guy out, similar to Gatti. There were rumours he was undertraining and he was a trainer's nightmare as he had he'd split with Steward after a very short time and also long time trainer Brendan Ingle before that. Many people including myself thought Naz was better fitted for the bantamweight or jr. featherweight divisions because at 126 he looked rather pudgy, but an elite ko artist nevertheless.

I think Naz hit his limit at 126 and as crude as Gatti was at 130, I don't think Naz's power and speed would carry over that well and also being at 5'3'' he'd be at a severe disadvantage against Gatti, but then Gatti wasn't a boxer/puncher yet until later in his career so he hardly used the jab. I do think it would still be competitive and a very close fight that would of gone either way. I think Gatti was a slightly harder puncher than Hamed, but he didn't have the skills Barrera had and would have a hard time getting to Naz a southpaw. There would be a clash of heads and that might be the difference in that fight.
