Prime Naz? Gatti gets stopped 2-4 rounds. Barrera version? Gatti gets stopped. US fans base Hamed on Kelley and beyond (with fair reason) but this kid 92-96 was a phenom. The most gifted british fighter in my lifetime and I'm nearly 40. The best? No but his natural talent was astonishing - I've said on other threads that the late, great Reg Gutteridge said the pre title version of Naz wouldn't get hit with a bag of confetti. More than any other fighter I feel cheated by the way his career developed.

Nick - I'm sorry man but the Naz that fought Barrera was the product of a 4 yr decline, inadequate physical training, negligible technical coaching and an enormous bank balance.

If by phenom you mean professional tomato can opener I'd agree.

hamed would outbox gatti and knock him out

hamed was a showman, kept his hands down often

but when he needed to he could box!

watch the kelly fight, hamed comes out cocky with his hands down and showboating, but as soon as he sees kelly is no joke he become a well schooled boxer.

Gatti lost to Ivan Robinson, Naz would destroy him.

Naz had a very good defense it's the Ingle style of keep one of your hands low to see punches coming. To say it was non-existent......

Nas is like Ali or RJJ, his defense is basically nothing but his reflexes. He outspeeds and feints, his defense is almost 100% based on physical gifts.

Naz was too fast and would have stopped Gatti. Ivan Robinson was no tomato can. He was a hell of a fighter as was Gatti.

I bet you hadn't even followed Naz's career up until Barrera. Any one that knows anything about Hamed, will testify his decline both physically (mainly reflexes) and mentally (interest in the sport) towards the latter part of his career. Different fighters age differently, it's stupid to suggest that just because he was 27, he was still in his prime :verysad.

Absolutely everyone that was close to Naz (Warren, Ingle, Steward), were very vocal about Naz's love for the game deteriorating. There was a brilliant article I once read, featuring an extensive interview with Ingle, who spoke of how disinterested Naz became and how he was a nightmare to train.

Naz different class. Gatti bigger but end of the da, they both still have to weigh in under 130lbs for weigh in. Also size is overrated a bit. Hamed is a class above.

Gatti would have been brutally beaten down in Hatton/Pac fashion. He was never in the same class as the likes of Hamed.
