The fact that Ryan vs Barrios is a title fight says everything about the current welterweight division. Disaster.

The 147 division will get stronger the more fighters move up, that's happened in several generations. Paro and Catterall already moved up, then everyone else at 140 and some at 135

Yehh Teo, Gary, Hitchins, would make a lot of noise in the division once they move up. Keyshawn already looks like a welterweight also.

Keyshawn has to come back, he is special and looks like a mini Crawford. I still believe he is better than Shakur

    Yeah it's terrible.

Top 10 Welterweights from the 2000s would be dominant Champs there today. Joshua Clottey for example would run riot

Somebody really damn good, but not truly great, like Cotto would have annihilated this current welterweight crop. It's legitimately historically awful.

Overall level is far from May/Pac, OLDH/Mosley, Leonard/Hearns eras and such…

….But I see potential for a lot of competitive and fun fights there!

Just to play Devil's Advocate, Cotto would've caught a beat down from Crawford, who headlined the division in 2023, and probably been am underdog against Ennis, who was recently the top guy. There are plenty of talented guys at 135 and 140 who can move into the division. It's more of a weak year than a weak era.

that's not true. we've got multiple generational greats, along with multiple potential generational greats, all active in the same era. that ain't bad. i mean, Usyk, Inoue, Crawford, Canelo? They're in the history books, done deal. Boots, Shakur, Bam, Teo? I wouldn't be surprised if multiple of them went down as ATGs.
