yes quite simply this,if one of the best fights of the year in Thurman v Porter which was a huge success by the way on free view wasn't on pay per view then how the hell can Canelo v Smith and Pac v Vargas be deemed worthy of PPV?
Admittedly something like Canelo v Cotto was fine to be made PPV as both guys have strong fan bases and the figures speak for themselves but the Liam Smith and Vargas fights proved that any fight where the opponent isn't well known or good enough then the fans aren't gonna waste their hard earned money to watch a mismatch,sad thing is Ward and Kovalev is on paper one of the biggest fights in many a year and out of all the above fights actually deserves to be on PPV but I expect due to both guys having a poor fan base it will probably not do as well as it should,I'm just glad I can watch in the UK on SKY for nothing lol.

The issue is the networks don't pay enough for rights fees to cover the purses. Hbo wouldn't pay enough to guarantee Canelo's purse. Pacquiao only got $4 mil on Saturday but without ppv what would of got? A network won't pay good money for Pacquiao v Vargas.
