Have been away so I am just posting my comments about the fights on the weekend. I was really impressed with Cotto. I did not think he would box like that. He hit mosley cleaner than I think anyone ever has. I found Cotto punches to be very wide and he dropped his hands early in the Judah fight but in this fight he looked very fast and skilled. I have truly underestimated his skills. I have been a fan of his for awhile but I thought mosley would school him. Mosely did good(I had it it 115-113 Cotto)but cotto was just that much better. Great fight P.S I am not a margo fan but he looked lreally good in there.
I'm a big Mosley Fan - but I have to agree with you. I never underestimated Cotto - I just thought Mosley would out-box him and it didn't happen that way. Cotto's defense was pretty good and he got off before Mosley and landed the cleaner punches. I actually had the fight even 114-114 - but could see how someone could have given one of those close rounds to Cotto. I try to score the fights without being basis - but it's easier said than done. Congrats to Cotto. I was shocked to hear Mosley mention retirement - he still has some good fights in him - but I understand that as deep as the Welterweight Division is - there aren't many names left for him to fight for big money. Shane's performance was pretty good - so Judah - Mayweather - or a rematch with Cotto are pretty much the only money fights out there for him and I don't see any of them happening now. Oh well - it was great while it lasted.
Yeah, Cotto's never been a one-dimensional, straight-ahead fighter. As he's shown in the past in his fights with Ndou and Abdullaev, he can effective use lateral movement or be on the backfoot and counter and score effectively as well as coming forward and being aggressive.
