True. That said, a bad lifestyle out of the ring can and will catch up to guys and make them age before their time. Guys like Pavlik and Hatton did more to shorten their own careers than any outsider. Conversely, a guy like Ward has miles on him, but took great care of himself out of the ring and respected the demands of the lifestyle.

With Kovalev, it's kind of surprising he made it as far as he did and lasted as well as he did given that he was stubborn as an old mule and drank and smoked his career. That was bound to take its toll eventually though, and we're seeing it in his conditioning now. He could be clean from here on out (and he probably was for Alvarez), but you can't erase the miles on the tires.

Evolution has a way of weeding out what’s considered obsolete even after years of effectiveness.

My point is Kovalev reaped what he sowed, some of his naive cynicism of others either in his camp or around him overwhelmed his commen sense. He was strong an ruthless but believed his physical superiority would self correct the serious gaps in mental fortitude....some fabrics are made to bend and not break and I’m not sure Kovalev was cut from that type of cloth. Trust me I’ve always been a fan but unlike many in this forum I’ll never create pathetic fabrications of the truth to feed my agenda.

The cloth comment was tongue in cheek as it was a quote used by Conor Benn to describe himself which i thought was funny.

I'm fully aware of SK's shortcomings, so you're preaching to the choir, nevertheless good post
