I took a 2nd look at Liston vs. Ali. Wow, Ali does many things wrong. For openers, his guard is very low. He's not blocking much with the gloves, he leaves a lot open. He does the opposite of tucking his chin in. Instead, he leans forward's and stick his face forward, with the chin high. Based on what I saw, Foreman is going to drill him inside of four rounds, could be a quick one.
I agree George is a one dimensional fighter, more than likely will not amount to anything. However, he is still better than the fundamentally flawed Ali Can technically flawed Ali get away with his flaws because of his athletic talent? These guys are just too big to windmill like the little guys, Sugar Ray Robinson got endless stamina and high speed, so he can do the windmill.
I Think Ali was 21 would have still been learning.....but for a young Fighter to defeat a Monster in Liston show's just how Great He was....
his NFL style victory celebrations are embryonic, nothing like deontays. also getting in the ring with someone dangerous is simply all wrong as far as wilder is concerned, tututt, you can picture wilder shaking his head at that.
If you look at the newspaper articles back when Ali was up and coming most writers dismissed him as a flawed boxer. "He does everything wrong".
Liston was the champ, a very good lineal champ, and I don't remember Ali nearly getting knocked out by him, in fact Ali toyed with him, and showed that he was the more skilled fighter. Wilder just went life and death with a very old fringe contender who he was (or should have been) losing to before the KO. This is not a particularly accurate analogy.
look, lets not beat about the bush, start a wilder does everything right thread. for a 7 foot tall cheerleader that is.
Ali has good amateur perdigree no doubt but canr see him doing anything in the pro game TBH, Low hands, moves too much, too small for heavyweight.. we wont be hearing much about this lad
Kinda reminds me of an Orthodox Chris Byrd, decent footwork, but a boring style not suitable for the pros
I've got doubts about his chin and stamina. These guys that talk 1000 words a minute are all flash and no substance. First good crack somebody lands and it will be goodnight. Have you seen a guy called Marciano fight? Wow.
Ali was very unconventional and relied on his speed and reflexes like Wilder, but he had a much better jab, his footwork was vastly superior, he was a better counter puncher and of course he had a chin of granite. Maybe if Wilder had a chin like Ali's he could get away with his style but he doesn't. If Ali had Wilder's chin he'd have never gotten up from the left hook by Cooper.
