an incentive if the fight with cotto is at 145 lbs. i figured just fighting cotto at 145 lbs for cotto's WBO belt was an incentive.. **** he wants to fight for the mans belt at a weight that cotto can't even make well i suppose he could make it but he'll look like he did when he fought mallignaggi..if he wants an incentive that has to do with money than cotto's belt should not be involve for that fight..if manny wins in which i don't believe he will how would he defend that belt with other welterweights that want to box for it? is he going to also tell them he'll defend but at a catch weight. many people use the excuse that manny started his career at flyweight and worked his way up but what they don't realize is that when manny started his career he was just a teenager. it not like he could have stayed in the weight cause as he he got older and matured his body also grew.
so basically the tactic is. "you want 145, I want 143... I'll fight on your terms but you gotta give me more money."
Pac stops at 135 and did not defend. He stated he shall retire after a fight or 2. Should He wins against Cotto, a 7th belt is secured, further cementing his legacy. Defending the belt is of no importance to him. He will likely target Mayweather and call it a day in prizefighting.
damn...pac has the advantage in negotiations b/c of all the people at ww wanting a payday to fight him and damn he and his camp are being shrewd as hell about it. if their tactics w/ other fighters have gotten mosely to agree to a fight at 140...thats unreal.
Cotto also has to fight in Las Vegas, go down in weight, get a 70-30 cut, new trainers, getting sue by his uncle, final year with Top Rank "negotiations get stressful and rough", has basically fought the top of welterweights... People im telling you when Cotto is gone, there is going to be a lot of sad people even the ones that dislike him.:good
If the fight takes place between the limits of the welterweight division then the belt would be on the line, and 145 is within that limit.
You're telling me that Cotto agreed to go down to 145 and put his belt on the line? If that's true then F all the Cotto haters cause the man will do whatever it takes to fight the best.
yep. Welterweight is 140 to 147 and any agreed weight limit between fighters in this weight category should include the belt holders belt. If Pac wins he would have to fight mandatory at 147 though, unless a similar agreement could be reached.
The welterweight limit is 147. To say that a fighter can't be over 145 imo is not the welterweight division. They don't make catchweight championships unless I missed some big announcement.:-(
No, 147 is the MAXIMUM in welterweight. You can be 141 during the weigh in and still fight for the welterweight belt.
