Correct.....but the thing about this whole fiasco is that Nazim Richardson and HBO blew the whole thing out of proportion by letting everyone think that the pads felt like plaster, when in the hearing it was said that even then, over two weeks after, it was firm but not hard

To this day, most in the media depict the wraps to have contained a plaster substance, which is completely bogus.

The article that Freddy posted on a different thread from an eye witness depicting what went on in that hearing would tell me that everything we can see in the pictuere of the knuckle pad as has been posted in this thread by Freddy, is completly legal......
but according to that article from the eye witness, a rolled up piece of moistened gauze fell out of the knuckle pad.
.....that piece that fell out is what made it illegal.
.....and judging by the picture of that knuckle pad, that wet insert must have been very small.

......btw, the insert not visible in the picture is what Capetillo has said his fighters use in the gym on their knucklepads to hit the heavybag.
.....its moistened to compress the gauze and protect the knuckles, its not designed to cause damage on a fighter, but to add more gauze in compressed form to protect the knuckles.

Not saying that Capetillo did or did'nt do it on purpose......but the story as he described it under the pressure and stress of Richardson dictating to the inspectors how they should wrap Margarito's hands, could have happened as he said.

I'd bet that moist piece of an insert is so small, that you could'nt tell that it was there if you held that knuckle pad on the palm of your hand.



Imo, the CSAC is more at fault than anyone......why have'nt they taken the lead for Nevada by supplying the fighters the materials needed to wrap?

When they wrapped the first hand, why, did both the CSAC inspector and Nazim Richardson not inspect the knucklepad that was placed on Margarito's knuckles.
......neither the commission or Richardson obviously did'nt inspect the first knuckle pad placed on Margarito's right hand, and they should have because obviously Capetillo did'nt make the pads in their presence, but just took them out of a bag and placed them there.


Lets get real here.....if I'm an inspector doing his job and a trainer takes that piece in that picture on this thread that I did'nt see him make, I'm going to say, "let me see and feel that?"

Had that happened in this case with Margarito, the inspector would have caught the insertion and said to Capetillo, "whats this?"
......upon which Capetillo would have likely said, "oh my God, I'm so sorry, thats the wrong pad, and gotten the right pad out of his bag.

The problem in all of this is that the CSAC does'nt do an adequate job of making sure that these pads are within their legal rights......

Now, the CSAC wants to make an example of Margarito for their own inadequacies.






Btw, its beside the point, as an illegal knuckle pad is just that, illegal.......
.....but I doubt very seriously that a piece of a small moist gauze insert in that knucklepad would have done much damage if at all, through more gauze and a boxing glove on top of that.

I thing its an embarrasment to all of boxing that its come down to making a mountain out of a mole hill!:-(

 

Its too bad you cant use this controversy with Margarito's wraps as a crutch for Cotto getting his arse handed to him by Margarito.......

Nevada supplies all the materials that are needed to get a fighters hands wrapped, they dont allow any material to be brought an used by the fighter......

Great Post and if i was Margo i would be taking legal action against HBO.

 

Just looks like folded gauze to me. Plus it doesn't even really look like "old" gauze. If this is why Margo and his trainer got suspended, I really have to question the decision to do so. It appears to me they the Margo team) where simply trying to protect his hands.

This "rush to judgement" that's been going on is BS, started by J. Lampey's inacurrate reporting and near temper tantrum.

 

Nope, nor does it show us how heavy it is. I'm not sure it's not just gauze, but I'm also not sure there isn't something hard and heavy underneath or that it isn't bricked up with some type of adhesive or plaster. If it does in fact turn out to be just a soft knuckle pad then I'll be one of the first to say that it's not that big of a deal (against the rules still, but nowhere near as serious as what he was charged with originally), but we clearly haven't established that, and this pic does very little to help us.
